Can't trust review sites for noise reading, i just looked a few up and the Tri-X ranges from 36dB on load to 41dB depending on what site you visit tongue.gif
The guru3d MSI review only shows the core clocks going up to 1187 MHz. I'm assuming the reviewer isn't the most avid overclocker, and their Tri-X review is limited, not showing overclocking results, system specs used for benching, noise/temp etc. So for that site there's no direct comparison, but it's kind of disappointing to see 1187 Mhz, especially considering there's always the possibility of a hand picked card. If it comes with Hynix that sounds really promising. Anyways, we need a direct comparison between the two, or more solid reviews of the MSI gaming card before I would pick one or the other. Because we know about the Tri-X though, I can tell you it's worth the purchase, not necessarily worth buying over the MSI, but it's the best 290 non reference that we know of.

ok you totally got me with that statement ^^ the tri-x was my original thought plus i can get it from my favourite retailer (the msi one not)
and i don't wanna wait weeks or possibly months because i already sold my two 7950s and i'm running a nvidia 9600 gt now xD

sidenote: my favourite retailer dosen't sell any msi products because they seem to be pretty troublesome in terms of rma management

Thanks guys, 290 it may be then, as the 780 is more than £50 more. Yes I did mean 1080, and if I do go up in resolution, it wont be for 6 months plus, and will only ever be single monitor smile.gif

This means the core temp went above 95*c, very worrying

Not a temp problem, sounds like a black screen issue. Its a known issue with these cards, there's a large thread about it.

I just realized that the R9 290/290x GPU is hot (ref and non-ref)! It makes my room warm and the exhaust blows directly to my feet since i don't have a PC chassis yet. biggrin.gif
What more if you run this in X-fire or Tri-fire? devil.gif I guess it doesn't matter if you are using a watercooling setup and the ambient temp results will be the same? rolleyes.gif

Black screen issue is memory instability and doesn't cause the fan to ramp up.

OTP triggers instant power off and 100% fan. Maybe it's 100c, I thought 96+.
