[Official] AMD R9 290X / 290 Owners Club - Page 1588

btw I suggest any reference 290 owner to give a try to the tri-x bios

I flashed that bios when trying to sort out the hard freezing when playing hw accelerated flash content in FF and noticed the card runs a lot cooler

on the standard bios my card with stock cooling would get to 95 and even downclock at 48% fan
with the tri-x bios it runs stable at 1000/1300 and max vddc was only 1.203v so it stays at 79-80 and runs usually at 46% (max I've seen on the tri-x auto mode was 49%)

with the stock bios it was running at 947/1250 at 1.26v and 95 degrees and couldn't even keep at 947 at the same fan speeds

I used the tri-x bios for about a week before I installed my accelero and was a lot happier I don't have to bump the fan to 60% to keep it around 80 as I used to with the older bios

the 290's price are crazy high. 550 mad.gif

i remember the price was 400.
I sold my gtx 780 ti for 650 and i was looking for 290 to get some money back due some unexpected bills
Instead i bought a gtx 780 classified for 450 on ebay
ALso the gtx 780 ti its not worth the 200 dollars difference in power.

The gtx 780 classifed beat the 290 easy So right now the deal is a gtx 780 classy.

it might match a 290 but not the 290X. unless the latter is a bugger.

edit: that is a reason why the Ti is more expensive. it will top benches for sure.

dang, i might go to vienna. how's vienna?

Classy is amazing, and well worth 450. But, it only beats the custom 290 cards if you get it to 1300+ the tri x for example @1150 is as fast as 780@1250. So keep that in mind.
