28c ambients atm (4:42am rolleyes.gif ) Cores are 67c and 59c, VRM's are 64c/60c and 58c/57c

Playing Sanctum 2 at 1000/1250 on Auto Fan speed (aggressive profile) Still no louder than my case fans tbh.

I have hit 90c max on the core (top card) playing BF4 on a hot day though, and i mean hot, ambients of 38-40c so i'm not surprised tbh.

From what the reviews are saying the DD cards are as good as the Tri-X cards on cooling the core, just not quite as good on the vrm's and i can say that's true.

mind you.....they look about 400% better (scientific opinion is valid tongue.gif )

EDIT: as for the fan speed question, 100% speed is not loud by any means and at 100% they spin at 1575rpm according to HWiNFO64 smile.gif

i make them bump up to 80% as soon as they pass 65c though and then 100% at 75c biggrin.gif

Thanks, seeing as my ambients are usually below 28C and I'd only ever get to 28C during the summer, I should be fine with the XFX 290s in CF with a mild OC, thanks.

anyone here with MSI r9 290 gaming? i want to see the temp in OC and gaming, also the performance. im going to purchase this card very soon but since no reviews yet, it is hard for me to decide sadsmiley.gif

Hi sir,

im planning to buy a h50 corsair and nzxt g10 for my reference r9 290 card.

my question is can i safely use the coollaboratory liquid pro to the card ?

and i heard that g10 has some flaw like the vrm temps.. is it true that if i connect tje included 92 mm fan to the motherboard fan header ill be able to max the fan speed so that vrm temps will get lower? thanks again!
CLP should be fine for use, as long as when you remove it you are gentle. This means using a qtip with iso alcohol and carefully removing it, as liquid metal will scratch the die. True me I scratched the hell out of my 3770k's die.

You will need heatsinks for the VRM's/VRAM modules. I hear that enzotech copper heatsinks do the job pretty well, but you will also need either thermal tape or thermal glue.

An alternative is to hack up the stock cooler and use the metal plate to cool the VRM's, but say goodbye to RMA'ing if you do that.

VRM's without heatsinks will burn up very quickly, especially if you OC. My old Gelid air cooler used to only hold my VRM 1 at 80c on +18mV, and this was with 100% fan, excellent case airflow, and cool ambients.

the G10 looks great but the vrm cooling is less than stellar from what i've heard.

If you are going to use it then grab some heatsinks for the vrms and mount a fan on the front of the card as well as the one included on the back.

As for the TIM, you can use any compound/paste you want just be careful in applying it, only enough for the die itself and no more, too much and you risk frying it.

If you do get the G10 though let me know what it's like, I have a few friends that are very interested in it smile.gif

if anyone's ever wondered what happens when you have a 7970 and a 290X in the same rig, you get this in CCC;
CCC overdrive (Click to show)

only problem is I cant adjust the max fan speed now, but looks like I could set it to a set speed instead...

thank you both for the replies, guess ill think about it more if i should buy thr g10 and mess the warranty of my xfx card... the one big problem is the vrm heatsinks, i live here in the philippines and i know that vrm heatsinks are hard to find,. thats why im holding off to buy the g10, i thought running the g10 92mm fan at 100 percent will do a decent job on lowering the vrm temps, guess i should first find vrm heatsinks smile.gif. and lastly i wont oc my card but i will use it as 290x moded bios smile.gif

Thank you so much for this!! I have been scouring the web looking for this!!! I ordered the Block and Backplate and then shopblt canceled my order for a reference design gigabyte 290. I aksed on the ekwb facebook page and on tomshardware if it would fit the DD, but got no answer. Its so awesome to know this works. Definitely +rep!!
