@Red1776

Post a pic with OCN name along side those beauties or a GPU-Z validation link when you get them set up with OCN name showing and I'll add you to roster. smile.gif

Two R9 290s output 250-300W depending on how heavily they're being used, even more wattage than 300W with OCing. Again, unless you have a power hungry CPU, the rest of your system including the CPU should be around 200W. So anywhere from 700-800W is what two should be drawing, assuming you aren't pushing them with OCing. If it was 675-775W, I would say you're fine, but that's a pretty close call and it isn't worth the risk.

I don't have a power hungry CPU, and I have a 750W PSU, so I'm considering not upgrading my PSU should the event arise that I need to upgrade (I hope it is a very long time from now), but even then I kind of want a 1000W just so I wouldn't ever have to worry. 750W was a terrible move in hindsight, I should have waited for a better deal on a 850W.

I've seen several reviews that have 290/x drawing 200-220w at game load. I seriously doubt any 6 + 8 pin 290/x will draw anywhere near 300w.

My 4670k @ 4.6/1.25v with Asus z87 pro, 16gb ram, ssd, odd, 8 fans, and 2 7200rpm hdds draws 145w. If I down clock to stock cpu my system draws 100w.

But yeah I'd say 650 psu is pushing it too close. But if you're going to buy a new psu with crossfire 290 in mind, I'd say get a 1000w. I have an 850 now and I'm thinking of moving up so I can oc.

The set up including the CPU and mobo is new so I didn't have much time to run many benches or do any overclocking except the GPU memory is set at 1500 Mhz. The CPU is at stock speed.
Ambient temperature 25C on all tests. Display Driver 13.12

After couple runs 3DMARK 11 Performance - Score P20465 LINK

The Litecoin mining is real stress test, I have the memory OC at 1500MHZ to get 970 Kh/s hashrate on each card. In order to stop the top card from throttling and occasional blackscreen I increased the voltage by 15 and power by 30.

Bottom Card - GPU temp 80C, VRM1 79C, VRM2 62C, Fan 68%

For the mining I have custom fan profile set in the MSI Afterburner.
The KILL-A-WAT pull from the wall shows 860 Watts. I usually run the top card at less intensity to avoid the high VRM1 temps, getting about 700 Kh/s hashrate for that card plus being able to use the PC for other work at the same time.

My cards are not sandwiched, there is empty double slot between them, I think you might need water-cooling with 3 cards sandwiched if you are looking for any voltage overclocking.

Hmm. Given that your case has significantly better airflow than my Define R4, I'm still worried about temps. Ambient here is usually low so that's a plus. And my board has pcie 16x at slots 2 and 5, so good spacing. Still, I don't know if my system can handle the temps. I should give up on the 290 and get a reference 780 probably. Or get a 290x and go for an oc'd single gpu.
