so i now went back to the whql driver and tried again. i got more out of it than last time but still not really good. i'm not finished yet but so far it's this: +80mv on the core, 1150mhz core, 1450 mhz mem. and i still get artifacts in some applications.

are those 290x's extremely voltage hungry? anyone got some advice for overclocking those? (i know how to oc in general but i'm not experienced, especially with amd)

the reboot to get full performance has nothing to do with bad power or psu.

its pure related to card+drivers. i have said it before, i suspect a rootkit has been pushed. since that moment the system just has quircks that cant be pinned.

i am back with my old symptom i had on previous pc's:

whenever you boot, it's like a different windows is booted, like there are 2 windows on your machine and every other boot it switches between those 2.

i notice this by changing settings that dont stick on reboot, subsequent bootup they are back where i set them, in between it uses the previous settings.

NO reinstall or wipe will fix this, it remains even with a full clean setup. So something is very wrong again. Either a rootkit or the crash from BF4 destroyed something.

I would say the same thing, but when I had my first 290, I had a 650 bronze psu, and it was giving me the same error. now that I have two 290's, i upgraded to a seasonic 850 gold unit, and same thing happens, so I think it's either amd powertune being buggy or something in the drivers is messed up.

i never crossfired my 7900 cards in BF4. Just BF3. and i know that a single 7900 card can max out BF4, which i did with both 7950 and 7970. It is C3 that needs crossifre.

how many hard-drives do you have? you could have a issue with the boot MGR. Sounds to me you might have upgraded at some point in time and moved your primary hard drive to a storage drive and put in a new primary boot drive. However when you change boot drives, your boot manager/system files stay on the other drive. In order to properly do a new clean install, you must remove the hard drive from the system, and install fresh. Meaning you can only have one drive connected at this time and its your new primary drive. This will re-install the boot manger/ system files on the primary drive, and allow you to format the other drive and remove the system files/boot manager from the other drive.

yes, i agree with that. i use a single 290X with a corsair HX650 watt. on a mini-atx board with just 1 sdd and 1 hdd, 6 fans, 1 wc pump corsair H110 cooler. i dont think that power is a problem, it wasn't a problem before 14.1 got installed.

maybe each new driver changes something in the cards UEFI firmware regarding to this powertune thing of AMD. or maybe just this driver and it doenst change back with previous drivers.

are there any risks in maxing out the power limit slider?

system is the same as it was when put together over a year ago, with the 290X came the HX 650 watts, thats all that changed.

system was running before with a GTX660 Ti on a zalman 460 watts without any problem ever.
