Best I can tell the Black Edition comes slightly (VERY slightly) overclocked on the core, and scores you some "benefits" with XFX like early announcements and access to special community resources and events (whatevs). One theory is that XFX uses slightly better components in the Black Edition, but that's just a rumor that I've never seen proven.

In terms of performance, as stated before, if you're water cooling it doesn't matter. As a matter of fact, if you're *not* water cooling, it STILL doesn't matter. biggrin.gif Personally, I see it as marketing fluff.

I have 3 reference cards on water and they all do well. I wouldn't worry about it. 😎

Cool, I guess I should just pull the effin' trigger already... $489 for XFX 290s... Not bad.. Not great, but not bad... XFX has lifetime warranty right?

Dont know whats wrong

And changing EnableULPS in regedit doesnt seem to work but it finds the 2nd card now

Nvm xD Aparently you're not allowed to "shut down" you have to restart, rebooted and now it works
I was having all sorts of dramas with 14.1 beta and bloody crossfire . It would recognise both cards but only bench one ???? . Did the ddu removal and went back to 13 beta 9.2 . Will test when i gets home , hopefully i will be back to benchin MK 11 and 200fps +

could it be that its the limit of my card since on stock clock they cant get above 1080mhz as well

Depends if your adding extra mv to the core? or just stock volts? Mine only hits 1100mhz stock voltage then needs +175mv to get 1250

So, I modified the cooler. I used the cheap Accelero S1 Plus (19€) , which was left behind from my 7870LE. Even if the S1 Plus doesn't have 290X support, it really does, as the screwholes line up perfectly.
Combined the cooler with 2x quiet 140mm TY147 fans, which are rated @ 21dba 73CFM (Got these for free). Screwed 2 of them into place. I left the VRAM's passive, as i'm not OCing the memory. (I believe the Asus DC II 290/X has passively cooled memory chips too) For the VRMs, I chopped a stock AMD heatsink. (The stock heatsinks aren't useless! biggrin.gif)
So the most interesting part, temperatures @ stock?!
Core dropped from 94C -> 73C load. (BF3, no throttling, uber bios enabled)
VRM's: VRM1 82C -> 70C. VRM2 66C -> 62C.
So, not bad? And the noise levels, these fans are quiet as I said, even at max. speeds.
Hope this helped you people, thanks for reading biggrin.gif

No they haven't because the problem doesn't happen outside USA. The pricing in here has been the same from launch to this day.
