I'm using two Asus R9 290 DirectCU II.

Also what PSU's are people running these on? Currently running them on an XFX 750w Pro series but my power monitor shows about 650w (peaked at 720w after 10 min for FurMark) being drawn form the wall. I'm looking at replacing it with an 850w ... but should I stretch to 1000W?

If you are doing any sort of benching or running both cards at 100% then you want 70-80% fan speed minimum.

As for the PSU, I'd recommend a 850w at least, spring for the 1000w if it's decent quality and you have the cash for it though

never cheap out on your PSU smile.gif

btw, whats the vrm temps like on the DCU II models?

Honestly, I now think crossfire or sli should be under water. I almost did what you've just done, but then I read this review :
http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/radeon_r9_290_crossfire_review_benchmarks,23.html

I was not fully aware that an idle card that is producing say 32 dB(A), which is very quiet, is totally uncomparable to 2 of those cards together. Let alone 2 cards under load when de lower one is heating up the upper one..

Conclusion, you have to deal with heat a.k.a. noise

I'm kinda broke after recent upgrades (2x R9 290's and QNIX 1440p monitor!) but can get a Corsair RM 1000 for the not unreasonable price of around €160. I can get a nice 850w for about €100 though. Might just grab the bull by the horns and get the RM1000 and hope it doesn't end in divorce! redface.gif

Can't remember VRM temps off the top of my head, in work now, will check later and upload the results.

This was my original plan, stick to 1080p and get one 290 and WC the lot. But the upgrade bug got a hold of me and I got a bit carried away! Eventually I will probably put it all under water but realistically it will be 6 months minimum before that's an option financially.

My temps Core 75 C and VRM1 under 85 . So, I'm happy gamer biggrin.gif

Think your card's just fine thumb.gif

nah xD it blackscreened with my "old" settings (+100mV, 1140mhz core, 1600mhz mem) but also with my current settings (stock volts, 1100mhz core) when i pushed the mem over 1500mhz. remember, the settings i mentioned first worked for a day or so under all kinds of stress.

I've heard about cards blackscreening that did not BS before...

If it's fully stable at 1100/1400 I wouldn't RMA it. Keep it at these setting for a while and see what happens. Did it blackscreen while gaming, because I had some blackscreens when returning from sleeping mode...

If I where you I would search some info on the RM1000 here OCN, it is a very bad PSU and totally not worth the money if I recall correctly. Ask for advice in the ''FAQ: Recommended Power suplies'' thread.

the first blackscreen was a few minutes after booting and from then on everytime i booted, oc gets applied, blackscreen. had to boot into safe mode, uninstall AB to get rid of the OC and then i could reboot normally with stock settings.

I want to crossfire too which is why I waited long to try to find the best coolet. I think the Power color PCS+ is good, on par with the Tri-x. I assume 15-20c higher temps on gpu with crossfire so core of mid 60s should work.

I'dget a 1000w. With 4670k at 4.6 and 290 at stock my draw peaks at 386w. OC will take that up a lot. CoolerMaster V1000 is the psu to get imho. Can find it for $189-190.

That's definitely a memory issue!
I had the same problem with my previous card, when I tried to overclock the memory from 1250 to 1400 Mhz...

Could be driver corruption. Try reinstall 13.12 and use Display Driver Uninstaller first.

The reason it worked before at 1500 or 1600 MHz is because the 2D voltage was running at 3d volts--there was either load on the card, or a monitoring program was causing the card to run at 3D clocks/speeds instead of 2D. You blue screen when the 2D idle voltage is TOO LOW for the current memory voltage when it ramps up.
