Airflow wise the case is always closed. Fan controller maxed whilst gaming. I have two 120mm intakes on the front. One 140mm intake on the side directly onto the cards. One 120mm rear exhaust and two 120's exhausting up through the H100 rad on top. Might throw in another 120mm intake on the floor as you suggested and see if it makes a difference.

The 750w PSU seems fine with them tbh. I've been keeping an eye on it with a power monitor and the whole system typically pulls between 550w and 650w from the wall whilst gaming so a good of room to play with. I did see a brief spike up to about 730w after a 10 min run on Furmark but to be fair, that wouldn't by typical use. I was worried about it myself but I spent some time asking around the Power Supply forum here and they reckon the 750 will be fine!

Finally, I look on the EK site, the configurator shows WB for the DCU II but you can;t select them and there is no price. Do they exist today? Done a bit of googling and can only find "EK announce WB for DCU II" etc

Block probably isn't out yet, but I would shoot EK an e-mail to see if they can possibly give you an ETA and some information if it will fit on the 290.

Have you swapped out the stock thermal paste yet? That has always made a good change for me on any GPU I've done it to.

I know they are rated beyond 90C, but I couldn't push my core past 1215 in Valley before my card went under water. The core wasn't heat limited at that point as it was maxing at 88C on stock blower. VRMs could just react better when temps are lower.

Back when I had my Gelid on my 290, I couldn't even hold 1200MHz on +162mV because VRM1 temps would skyrocket to 90c+.

On the stock blower I could hold 1200 no problem, now I can hold 1215 or so on the same voltage.

VRM1 temps have a huge effect on stability, as well as power draw. Higher temps make the VRM's much less efficient, drawing more power, and creating more heat.

Now my VRM1 temps don't go over 40c, and my core doesn't go over 48c, and I can hold 1240MHz with +200mV no problem.

Also, people who say all Elpida clocks poorly don't know what they're talking about. My old 7950 had Elpida and clocked up to 1700MHz no problem, my 290 has Elpida and can hold 1625MHz. I didn't max out both of these, either. I still don't know what the actual upper limit of my 290's ram speed is.

There's not a massive performance increase, so I usually keep it at 1500MHz, but for 3dMark11 a couple hundred points can be had by raising my memory OC.

40C on VRM1 is impressive. Mine is maxing at 63 now under benchmarks and low 50s while gaming. Did you upgrade thermal pads? I wonder what brand thermal pad XSPC includes with the Razor blocks thinking.gif

From one of my earlier posts
Quote:
Some benches/games don't rely on RAM speed as much, especially with enormous 512-bit bus. However, I did check in my testing using my best core speeds while keeping memory clock at stock.

Here's the break down:

Heaven: 6.86% decrease in score
Valley: 8.72% decrease in score
3DMark11 Performance Run: 1.98% decrease in score
3DMark11 Xtreme Run: 3.72% Decrease in score
FFXIV Benchmark: 4.47% Decrease in score
~2%-9% in this small handful of benchmarks. I'll take any free performance I can get biggrin.gif

Hi Guys.

I`ll try and keep this short before I impulse buy. LOL!

I have a sabertooth z87 running a 4770K which I uprgraded from a Crosshair Formula Iv. It had a 1090t six core ticking over a 4.2Ghz.. Oh, and two XFX 7970 DD BE in Xfire on a 2560 x1440p monitor. I have had the sabertooth/4770K for about 2months now, one of my 7970`s recently packed up. I had just bought the Kraken G10 for one of them, on a antec kuler 620. fitted it. purchased another antec 620 for the second card, and it packed up. I am in the process of selling the faulty 7970 on ebay.

I now have one 7970 running a Kraken G10 with an antec kuler 620, which ticks over at 29c, full load about 65c. which im very pleased with.

Shall I buy two new sapphire R9 290x tri-x GPU`s?

Shall I buy one r9 280x and another Kraken G10 and Xfire?.

tell me what I should do.

Can't RMA the 7970 DD? They have lifetime warranty no?

Prices are sky high still, so it's hard to say. If you have the money, and for future proofing purposes, the 290 or 290X is a good choice.

Have you swapped out the stock thermal paste yet? That has always made a good change for me on any GPU I've done it to.

Thanks man, just emailed EK there now and asked about the waterblock. Sent em a message on FaceBook as well. Will update results if I get a reply.

Just ordered another 120mm fan for the bottom of the case as well so hopefully that won't be long getting delivered.

Didn't think about changing the TIM. have some upstairs, might give it a go during the week if I get a chance.

Will the kracken work on crossfire cards? Will it actually fit?
