the units in the orange circle are your memory VRMs, the ones in the yellow highlighted rectangle are your core VRMs, they both need cooling most importantly, so you need long heatsinks to fit them correctly, the memory VRMs need a heatsink similar to the memory heatsinks.

oh no only found those type of vrm heatsinks here in my country,.. i cant find any long vrm heatsinks,, but can i still use the shorter vrm the one i posted on the core vrm?

Paul as answered that for you smile.gif

in short, yes, you "should" have enough, 16 for the Vram and 6 for the vrm's, Take the cooler off and place them on it without any thermal paste/pads to be 100% sure smile.gif

2.5 slots Im afraid.

Temps on the top card went from 61C stock to 78C in Crossfire. Looks like my G10s and Kraken x40's wont be wasted after all. It may in fact be a good candidate as it comes with VRM heat sinks, a backplate and another plate that covers the RAM modules (which are both Hynix BTW)

Thanks for the Heads up with MSI AB and ULPS done. Problem Solved, both reading correctly as 290's now.

Man those temps are very good. 78C on top card? My Asus 290 DCU II hits 94C in crossfire. The bottom card is mid 80s. This is on auto fan speed.

Will you bench Heaven 4.0 with your fans manually set to 100% and update with your temps? I'll do the same later when home.

I'm finding the heat of xfiring these cards unreal on air. So much so that I'm going to have to put them under water!
Thanks for the responses regarding the VDDC ins roboyto and chiknnwatermln, I guess mine are within normal range too. That's quite a difference in terms of heat generated from water vs air.

I'm adding a third 290x to my rig and will update when it's in! : )

I have some mad throttling issues which my previous card didn't have. Any input?

I got a reference XFX R9 290 flashed to 290X. Unlocks properly btw. Benches and GPU-Z confirm it.

Cooled by a Accelero Xtreme III and the stock coolers VRM parts which I cut out.

I use MSI AB or ASUS GPU Tweak and in for example GPU Tweak with 150% Power Limit and 1.412v and 1100mhz the core barely gets to 1000Mhz cause it throttles like mad.

Temps for the core: ~60c, VRM1 ~65c, VRM2 ~55c.

No need for it to throttle.. Then why is it..

I bought it with this BIOS pre-applied to it secondhand so I'll just go ahead and flash the PT1 BIOS from the OP as that's the one I ran on my Club3D unlocked card which didn't have any throttling but clocked dismally to begin with. tongue.gif

You need to smash in about 1.5v for more thumbsupsmiley.png
I have serious heat issue with my loop. GPU's are actually doing fine, core & vrm1 are max in 60s & 70s Celsius respectively (31 - 32C ambient/room temp). The problem is water in my loop feels pretty hot. I need to solved this before going any further. I just attached temp sensors on radiators & on the tube (can't get proper water temp sensor because stock issue). I'll get some numbers tonight.

Never mind my first post. It had a stock ROM loaded to it.
Flashed PT1.ROM and it works fine with no throttling at 1.400v setpoint (~1.20v load). Testing 1200Mhz now @ 290X shaders.

Update: Hahaha at least now I know one thing tongue.gif

No running 1.40v setpoint on unlimited power targets with air cooled VRM's tongue.gif

Core hit about 70c but VRM's stabilized temps at VRM1:102c, VRM2 61c.
Dropping the AUX voltage to -100mV helped a tad and dropped it to 96c for VRM1. Even though they are ''rated'' for 125c constant I'm not going to run 100c on them long term.

Dropped the OC a slight bit to 1175Mhz @ 1.30v (load ~1.15v).
Simply went back to MSI AB and +100mV) which runs at 83c VRM1 and 55c VRM2 with -100mV AUX.
I can live with 83c VRM1 in Valley.. Now let's see what kind of load temps BF4 @ Mantle can bring up.

EDIT2: BF4 @ Ultra with Mantle gets to about 65c core and 80c VRM's flat line. Is that runnable 24/7?

So as of this week... when I uninstalled the mantle beta and went back to whql driver all my games have a distorted sound. I have updated the bios and driver to the most recent and all other drivers as well. Anyone aware of this problem or experiencing it as well? My system is below.
