Just picked up my 2x new gigabyte 290 windforce OC cards - swapped them out from my 2x GTX670's and on the same settings in BF4 it is no where near as smooth or nice???? Also - when monitoring temps in afterburner I notice that one card has a temp display while the other shuts off completely on desktop - the card only kicks in once i load a game etc. I guess its a power saving feature??? Anyway - I figure it is just a matter of setting them up correctly or using the magic recipe with BF4 - because I would damn well expect 2x WINDFORCE OC 290's 4gb to kick 2x geforce 670's 2gb ass...

the turning off thing is a feature called ultra low power state (ULPS) you can and should turn it off using trixx or afterburner. don't about your performance issues though

oh my, should be fine though, may have to watch the memory IC on the top-right corner, and be sure you put a heatsink on that bottom end of the VRMs.

they should be fine, the caps are not designed to send charge through the casing, nor should the other components be able to receive charge from the heatsinks.

Something is wrong because if your card's voltage would have really been 1.9V it would have fried your card in seconds on air cooling. I think you should flash the original bios back.

Beauty - did that through registry and we are good on that front. More specifically put around the performance issues - I'm using the 14.1 beta drivers, in game bf4 switched to mantle. still was ****. Been reading alot about frame pacing so I turned that **** off - started up BF4 again and BAM - freeze & x0116 BSOD. Again - looks like other people were experiencing this.

So would I be better at this stage to revert back to the WHQL drivers and stay using the DirectX APU - can anyone confirm if that will improve xfire 290 performance in bf4?

The main idea has not change as far Powercolor bios overvoltage.

Touching the barrel caps is fine, but you don't want anything touching the flat surface mount caps (they look like two dots of solder with a brown thing between them - you can see them next to the bottom right VRMs in this pic).

I have yet to see anyone with a 290/290x using the 14.1's with crossfire who hasn't had one issue or another. I suggest using the whql's until the next beta release.

I agree, Single card worked alright but Crossfire was messed up, in pretty much every game i tried to run.

I'm back on the 13.12 drivers for now till the Mantle WHQL driver or a promising Beta comes out
