I need to find out if this card has identical bios on both slots, hope so.

Right now I'm playing with undervolting since I'll be pairing this with a Tri-X and this card has +50mV core at stock while the Tri-X does not. What I'm finding is that I can increase core clock while undervolting but not mem. Core is king though so that's much much better than the other way around, mem clocks are really only significant on some benches, no practical effect in games.
Exactly what I was thinking. My core is stable at 1150 with the stock +50mv but the memory just falls on it's head whenever I try to change it. Seems we now have both the same processor and gpu so I'll be comparing my scores to your when I get a stable setup going.

Just ran again.

P16307 | 1295/1700 | +200mV | GPU 48 VRMs 68/38 |

Tried with same settings I used with tessealtion off, 1315/1715, and there was significant artifacting/flickering. Score also dropped 6 points to P16301.

Tried again @ 1315/1700, and artifacting/flickering got worse and score dropped to P16293. Definitely have hit the wall for the card.

Very nice GPU overclock. I only maxed at 1,225 /1,650 MHz with +200 mV, think not to bad with Crossfire on air cooling.

If you added the P16132 to compare 3DMARK 11(P) HOF you would get # 23 (single card) rating. Pretty good on benchmark dominated by Nvidia cards due to the tessellation. I'm sure with i7-3930K or 4930K you would easy hit top 10 with much higher Physics Score.

I run the 3DMARK 11(P) tessellation on and got rated # 8 in SLI/Crossfire chart as I said not too bad for air cooling. Was actually # 6 for at least couple days smile.gif

power efficiency, binning, and 320GB/s on the 512bit bus is enough for 4K so you only really need to OC it for extra frames in said res or getting the most out of benchmarks, there isn't really much that makes use of ~400GB/s memory, but it can still help with various things, whether or not you would want to run the memory that high is up to you, and AMD generally gives people the option by using 1500MHz rated units on the reference PCB.

memory voltage control isn't really needed on these cards, the majority of ICs can handle 1600MHz (100 over spec) on the 1.5V without issues, most 7970s could go up to 1700, its more limited by the controller then the actual ICs.

1800+MHz on the other hand (entering subzero territory), a PCB and/or BIOS mod would be in use likely anyway.

hi sir goodmorning, i am running stock xfx 290x bios and my vrm are so high @ 80c so i think my vrm heatsinks sucks,.. haha but i will try to re apply them and see if ii get a better vrm temp result

Yeah, I've already noticed that. Socket 2011 CPU just too expensive to justify.

What air cooler are you using? Impressive to hold those clocks/volts on Air and keep VRM temps in check.

Really? This is my first 290. But historically I've found that tweaking mem volt has allowed me to clock higher. And higher mem clocks have allowed me to get to higher core clocks.

Core and VRM2 were frosty. VRM1 could use a little improvement. Chiknnwatrmln VRM1 temps are 20C under mine and he's using the Fujipoly Ultra Extreme pads on VRMs. I want to know if they're worth the price premium, and I want to know if the EK block has better VRM1 cooling than my XSPC.

It was something like 21528 or something along those lines... you can go back and find it or I'll check once I'm back up and running. I'm bleeding air out of loop right now.

I'm half Italian and from Chicago, I'd prefer pizza :-D
