pricematch with your credit card. Most credit cards have a 3 month price protection policy or at least my WORLD and major bank mastercards do
post #17924 of 43909

That can't be right. So you can buy a 290x at any point in time, and over the next 3 months you'll receive a refund for the difference of the lowest price you can find???

You could make a career out of that LOLLLL

I just got a whole new issue with my card...

I cannot run PCI-E 3.0 speeds with it at all in slot #1. SLot #2 works fine on 3.0, but only x8.

When left on Auto in the BIOS it seems the card only runs at x16 1.1 when testing in GPU-Z.
When I put it on Gen3 the PC boots, windows starts, i hear the startup sound but screen stays on stand-by. Card does nothing.
When I put it on Gen2 it works just fine and GPU-Z also sais x16 2.0 under load.
When I use slot #2 and force that to Gen 3 it works just fine and GPU-Z confirms x8 3.0. Only downsidfe is that this slot is just x8 so the top slot @ x16 2.0 is just as fast and cools better.

The heck is this issue? My CPU is a 3770K and board is a P8Z77-V Pro with the latest BIOS. Card runs a stock XFX R9 290X BIOS.

Is the top slot damaged somehow? Wierd thing is, my old GTX780's all ran just fine on x16 3.0 on the same slot.........

There's only one thing left to try. Switching PCI-E Option ROM but I doubt it'll work since slot 2 works fine on 3.0.

EDIT: Option ROM had no effect. Running forced 2.0 now. performance was indeed less with the Auto (1.1) settings so the slot really was on Gen 1.1. Valley FPS has gone up quite a lot running 2.0.

Should I give up on this motherboard? Is it defective?

interesting. I remember there being a bug in gpu z that was fixed with the one of the later updates. There was also a note in the driver release notes about improper pci-e bus setting when using crossfire (13.12 release notes).

You should know there is ZERO performance difference between pci 2.0 and pci 3.0. So as long as your running at PCI-E 2.0 x16 you will not have any performance loss. I don't know if you have a another computer around that you can put the card into to see if you get the same results, but that would rule out the graphics card or the motherboard.

Plenty of other rigs here but none with PCI-E 3.0 capability. All either AMD or Sandy based smile.gif

ahh ok. Would be the easiest way to figure out the root of the problem.

I noticed your card has a flashed bios, have you tried putting it back on the stock bios?

Yep. BIOS switch eh smile.gif

But this BIOS is practically stock. Cards a XFX 290 Core Edition running a 290X Core Edition BIOS for shader unlock.

Thanks for the info, I'll do some more testing later and see if I can get to the bottom of it
