Probably a stupid question but that means enabled, right? I like to disable it because it loads after Trixx and resets the clocks. To enable CCC (but have OC features off) I need to set Trixx on a delay in Task Scheduler, which I don't think is causing any problems, but my philosophy is to tinker as little as possible.
Hmm. I was planning on the Tri-X in the upper slot and the Powercolor PCS+ in the bottom slot because the Tri X is 14mm thinner than the PCS+ and will leave more spacing between cards. But I wonder if the other way around would be better. How do you test for better performer? I'm assuming benches will be the same at same clocks since they're the same gpu and both reference board. So how do I know what is the better performer? In terms of overclocking they obviously set to the same clocks.

Just add the second card. No need to reinstall drivers.

This is imho the best cooler ever. I have never seen temps this good on an air cooled high end gpu. I know the Tri-X is highly rated but I strongly doubt it performs like this card. Check out an evening of Far Cry 3 at 1170 core 1500 mem:

Temps below 70c across the board at 1170/1500 overclock, ambient ~22. Tell me that's not fabulous for an air cooled 290. Will the Tri-X get me cooling like this? I have a hard time believing that. I've used Sapphires before. They do great at stock clocks, amazing if you undervolt, but the moment you overclock to any degree vrm1 hits high 80s.

So I'm debating whether to cancel this order and get another PCS+.

One advantage of the Tri-X is that it's 38mm, vs the 52mm of the PCS+. So more space between cards for airflow if I put the Tri-X in the upper slot. The PCS+ has gone up in price so it's $550 now. But in addition to the cooling it's got a metal shroud and backplate, vs the Tri-X plastic shroud and no backplate. The Tri-X is 1022g. I worry about sag.

Will I run into any problems if I use different brand cards in xfire? I know it's possible, but you guys all seem to use the same brand card in your xfire setups.

Gah dunno what to do. Have to decide pretty soon obviously, it's going to ship Friday I think. What would you do? Tri-X for $499, or cancel it and pay $50 extra for another PCS+?
Honestly, either one is a really good choice, you can't make a bad decision in this situation. My Tri-X has never hit above 75c, but Ive also never seen it go above 40-45% fan speed except for when I manually tweak speeds. I can't hear my GPU's fans at 40% at all, even with the case open. At 45% I can hear a slight sound, at 50% i can hear it, but it still isn't loud. The tri-x is going to be a better overclocker because it has much more headroom to crank up the fans an hynix memory, but at stock speeds the PCS+ has absolutely incredible temps. I really like the idle temps of the PCS+ as well.

The most impressive thing on your PCS+ is 67c VRM1 overclocked, that is incredible. I've only overclocked a little, because I couldn't get GPU-Z to show my VRAM temps, I changed my version of catalyst, so maybe I can see them now, but even when I overclock at 1150/1500, I couldn't get the core temp to go above 76c, I was manually messing with the fan during that time so it was higher than 45%, but it still maintained goo temps.

If you like the clocks you have right now and don't ever plan on going higher, get the PCS+, it's superior in temps in every way to the Tri-X, if you want better overclocking but slightly higher temps, stick with the Tri-X. If you don't want to deal with cancelling your order or paying an extra 50$, then keep the Tri-X, it isn't a bad card at all and shines in different ways than the PCS+.

Ultimately it is your decision, go with what you feel like you need for your system, I am mostly just pointing out some of the things I see the PCS+ beating the Tri-X at and vis versa.

With as finicky as CCC can be I've always uninstalled drivers, then added the other card, then re-installed and went about the rest. Better safe than possibly chasing driver issues tongue.gif

Hey guys,

Does anyone know if there is a way to delay the startup of MSI Afterburner? I can't find it in the services.. Could I do it with the task scheduler or something? Reason being is because as soon as my screen starts up it gets a jolt from MSI AB, and I know its doing that because without it, I don't get that glitch jolt when I'm first starting up to my desktop. Anyone with a good answer I will throw you a rep and it would be much appreciated. smile.gif

Can't answer about AB but Trixx loads from Task Scheduler so it's easy to set a delay, which is what I do since CCC loads after without the delay on Trixx and overrides the clocks. I also find Trixx superior because of separate fan curves for each profile. Maybe AB does that too but I've never been able to find it, always just the one universal fan curve. AB does have hysteresis which is nice.

Now you're making me all paranoid. DDU is pretty easy to use right? Maybe I should just do that. Though, I pretty much always run into problems whenever I uninstall/reinstall video drivers. Never tried DDU before. But it sounds like it works well and glitch free.

Correct, if you are running stock then all the hubub about finding the best card is moot because they will perform near identically. However since this is OCN, find your best OC card by doing your bench runs and game testing to see how the single performance is (remember aim for stability!). Use the best (usually highest average/min/max fps in that regard) as your first slot card. I've noticed a fps gain of about 5-7 going this way.

Agree with others in that there is really no need to do a driver uninstall and reinstall. Just pop that baby in and fire it up.

No problem. I haven't played BF4 since getting the third card but with 2 cards I was averaging 97-100 fps using the following graphics settings with a low of 73 and high of 148. And yes I was on a 3570k but switched to the 4770k because I had microcenter credit and the 4770k was 249 at the time. : ) Kinda sorta wish I had went with the 4930k but I think I will wait for Haswell-E.
