Just flashed my asus 290x with the powercolor 290x pcs+ bios. It might be just the placebo effect, but my card seems to have gain some stability at higher clocks. Plus it's nice to have the +50mv added by default.

Going to do some further testing.

Got one XFX R9 290 when it first came out 409.99 from NCIX
Got a VisionTek R9 290 for 339.99$ from Dell
Got an ASUS R9 290 DU OC for 539.99 from NCIX <---Not sure if this one is a keeper
the last one is undecided.

I have an AX1200i, so hopefully that will be enough to power these cards, 100A on the 12V rail, plus max power draw is ~1504W

Decided not to get the internal sample. Tons of people on rfd said it wasn't worth the risk, the seller was a bit of an @sshole too, so I didn't bother

i fixed it i done a system resotre and it worked
i think because my comp was still think it was the tri-x bios
cause i flashed it then flash back to stock bios but my system still thought it was the tri-x bios
i think that was the cause

You are going to need a bit more power than 1200w for quad 290x. You will want a bit of overhead/margin. I have a 4 x 7970 and am running 2.2kW (including a AX 1200)

I am assembling a 4 x R290X rig now and am running 2.3kW power config. at the least I would look at 1600w for quad 290X's. If you do benching, you really don't want your PSU config running at or close to 100%

Just my 2 cents :)

I made a thread in the PSU section about this just yesterday. Take a look and weigh in if you're interested.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1470607/dual-psu-or-1600w-single-for-4-way-290x

I'm in the same boat. Running trifire currently with an EVGA supernova 1300W. I doubt it will cut it for 4 way. Only problem is my current case has no room for a 2nd PSU =/. Can't tell exactly what i'm drawing from the wall since I don't have any sort multimeter (yet) but ever since connecting my third card, I hear the PSU fan on so it's gotta be close to it's limit. Especially when benching.

So got #15 on FSE Hall of Fame... hmm I like! biggrin.gif

http://www.3dmark.com/fs/1799345

Gonna try to push for more tonight... but my cards clock like crap.... 1180/1500 is not fun mad.gif

On stock bios I was getting 1200mhz/1500mhz but I was scoring 15k.... Switched to Tri-X bios and started getting 17k@1180... axesmiley.png

So I took out the 290 Tri-X, gonna return it, I should have listened to you guys who were trying to tell me 290 xfire would be bottlenecked by my 4670k. It's just not worth it to run xfire at this point, my psu can't oc two cards and my cpu can't handle the full power anyway. Since I can oc a single card xfire at stock clocks is getting me a 20% boost at best.

But now I'm having issues with my single card. It was running fine with no down clocking, now clock fluctuates quite a bit -- as much as 200. It's not temps, it's not psu, it wasn't doing it before, now it is. What are the potential causes of core clock fluctuation and how can I fix it?

At the same clocks my Tri-X 290 out benches my Powercolor 290 by a decent margin.

my new toy.

I do have a question. is there a way to lower the maximum temp before throttling on these from 94c to something lower like 85c?

Change the Target GPU Temperature setting in the Overdrive portion of CCC. That'll try to make the card hold whatever temp you set (although I'm not sure if it is just fan speed, or if it will also throttle the card).

you can always undervolt and underclock the cards if you wanted to, they handle it quite well and someone here did it with his 290 trifire with quite spectacular results, though his was on air so less power draw meant no throttling.
