I came from 2x 670's and it ran perfectly - why is it that these 290s seem to be loading so much more on the cpu? And to add - what cpu out there would be considered the best for these cards?
Haha, I'm sorry but a 4670K at 4.5 is not a bottleneck for a pair of 290 or 290x in crossfire. Please take a look at an article Anandtech did very recently, last 2 maybe 3 months where they go into detail testing of crossfire, sli, AMD and Intel chips. I'm too lazy to google this for you.
Short story long... AT NO POINT a 4670K will be a bottleneck, even at 1600p. EVER!! It's on par with 3960x, 4770k. Or within 1-3%. There are a handful of synthetic benchmarks that are designed to take advantage of hyper-threading(3dmark11, etc.) - these are NOT real world scenarios. Also, a couple real time strategy games, which Mantle is designed to address.
Load times, come down to storage, platform, graphics drivers. I'm on a samsung 840 Evo with a 4670K and every single game(BF3, BF4, everything!) load ultra fast. No delays at all, sata3 channel is satured to the max - you can test this with resource manager and look at disk I/0.Edited by vortex240 - 3/2/14 at 3:08pm
