I said it before and I'll say it again a 4670K at 4.5 is NOT a bottleneck. Then again it's not my money, people can go find out on their own.rolleyes.gif

my findings differ. here is my i7 HT off in BF3 MP 64 . . .

100% on all cores. those are a bit faster than a single 290. during huge explosions - I was able to tell that the game lagged. never occurred with HT on.

Good news: I play BF4 MP 64 with my i7 at stock and HT off but using mantle. I love it.

I recently bought a kill a watt so I could see my power draw and if the 290x used THAT much power.

So far I've only done two benchmarks but plan on doing more and updating. To make sure I was recording accurately, I moved everything on that outlet to an adjacent room's outlet and plugged my computer into the meter. Then reset and switched it to watts on a 120v outlet.

I ran Heaven 4.0 and 3dmark11 P after about 30 minutes of idling

The following gpu clocks were
1: 1200/1650 +96mV +50 power limit
2: 1200/1500 +103mV +50 power limit
2: 1225/1650 + 110mV +50 power limit

Heaven settings were maxed at 1080p with 8xAA

Beginning by ship 996 watts

Rotating screen close to end 1007 watts

3dmark11 performance setting

Graphics scene 4 1001 watts

CPU only test 596 watts

Combined test 701 watts

Gelid Icy Vision appears thinner than the Arctic with supplied fans. Can anyone say exactly how thick it is.

Anyone has this problem, no matter what you set and try to apply/save in Afterburner it will keep specific values - for me 1166 Core and 1340 Mem. I even installed latest AMD drivers and reinstalled Afterburner and still same values, it won't even show the default clock values for the r9 290 cards anymore.

Edit;

I installed Trixx and it also initially gave me 1166 Core and 1340 Mem, however I was able to reset the default clocks with it and chose the clocks of my likings.

I went back to Afterburner and it was still defective, until I deleted the profile files in the folder, then I was able to reset to default values and then overclock to whatever I wanted. Weird, since when I uninstalled Afterburner I was sure to delete the folder and it's profiles.

Not sure if Trixx fixed the issue or deleting the Afterburner Profiles afterwards did the trick, but now it works.

I disabled ULPS per your suggestion but it just did it again. It definitely doesn't happen nearly as frequently but apparently it still does happen. Maybe a mobo setting?

1. Crossfire temps should be around 50c core and 60ish vrm depending on how much cooling surface area you have in your loop
2. Noone knows OC potential when underwater yet.
3. Review says 250w tdp with stock voltages so double that and add 30-50% to be safe for heavy overclocking, you're looking at 650-700w for the cards. 1000w psu or above should be able to handle it.
4. 3 cards would require a 1200w or above. I'm using an evga supernova 1300w for my trifire setup
5. Yes and no. The reason people buy custom over reference designs is that some of them (MSI, Sapphire, Powercolor) are higher binned cards with components meant to sustain better performance than the reference design. All depends on price of the card vs reference and how much overclocking you intend to do.

Thanks very much for that thumb.gif and sorry for the poor layout of my post haha

I am planning on buying the EVGA SuperNOVA G2 1000w, but might upgrade in case I do go for a trifire setup.

As for overclocking, I just want to give the cards a decent OC but able to keep them steady for gaming.

Your numbers are with a relatively thrifty cpu and gpu clocks that are decently high but not nosebleed high so imagine the what's left on the table. Like for instance a 5ghz hexacore intel cpu and gpu clocks over 1300 which would require +200mv and some in certain cases.
