My old 7950 used to kick into 3D mode with more than one monitor. I never figured out what caused it but when I upgraded to my 290 that stopped.

What monitor, res, and connections are you using?

I'm on 14.2's; I was trying to setup 3D modes in afterburner so I'll see what happens if i close it off fully.

I'm just using the two DVI ports also, I assume that's fine?

hey guys,
I've used the method in the first post of this thread to add more volts to my R9 290.
However no matter what I do (+200, +100, etc) nether afterburner or HWiNFO see a change in voltage, while the slider in afterburner itself does work just fine and results in a change of voltage.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks! thumb.gif

yup, I was missing something, got it working now biggrin.gif

Does anybody know the difference between Catalyst 13.12 and 13.12 C and where to find a release note?

update: it's a Sapphire driver released in februari, about 40Mb more than 13.12. No mention of what it's about...

For the people who have issues with core clocks hanging on full speed while memory clocks down on idle, it's related to memory overclocks. When you OC your memory the card will no longer downclock the core in idle.

This happens with the 14.2 drivers.

Reminds me.. Can I make a request from you guys?

As there is no working BIOS editor, at least not that I know of, for the R9 29xx cards can anyone hex edit a BIOS around here?
I would like a BIOS with BIOS level memory clocks to see if the card downclocks properly with 1500Mhz mem clocks in the BIOS.

Also, if someone could make a hybrid BIOS of the ASUS ''PT1.ROM'' BIOS and the regular one meaning a BIOS with no power limits nor throttling like the PT1 has, but WITH idle clocks / idle voltages which PT1 lacks.

This would be so epic for all of us 290x owners. What I am going to try is to see if the PowerColor PCS+ BIOS works on my Tri-X as that BIOS has 1350Mhz mem clocks. If that works, and it downclocks properly, it confirms my theory of the drivers + software mem OC being at fault.

My memory is at stock now.. I thought it was overclocked but I'm at 1250 ATM.. frown.gif

So annoying, is there a BIOS I can use to fix this or something? I may even roll back to 14.1 as bad as it was..

Or you can always use the official driver. I have no problems with it.

What you should do is disable all OC software from starting up with WIndows.
Disable CCC Overdrive and set it to it's defaults.
Reboot.
Now, it should downclock again like normal.
Turn on CCC or your preferred OC software.
Apply your overclock BUT LEAVE RAM AT STOCK.
Now, enjoy your coreclocks and voltage + fan profiles with downclocking wink.gif
