When I'd go for a 4K monitor, I would rather consider 2 x R9 290 in CF. But it all depends on how many FPS you need in the games you play...
The plan was either 2x 290, 2x 290X, or 2x 780 Ti eventually

Today, after 10 weeks of RMA, ASUS sent back my exact same blackscreening R 290X with the comment 'we could not find a problem regarding this GPU'

Well, ASUS this was the last product I bought from your company!

Test it. They may have quietly fixed it. Sell it if it is fixed. just a suggestion.

If they tested it at stock frequencies and it passed then they have no obligation to replace it. Might simply be a gpu that doesn't want to OC.

Have you tried the card in a different mobo/psu?

ASUS has great RMA, they don't fuuuck around - there is a very high chance here that the REAL issue is on your end.thumb.gif

Asus has terrible RMA service relative to other companies, based on what I have read on several forums.

I'm crashing to vertical lines all the time now. 15 minutes of heaven benchmark cards running at 80c/65c and crash to vertical lines. 20 mins of dota cards running at 70c/55c crash to vertical lines. I'm really starting to think this Asus card is just a POS and regretting buying it. Tried running at stock and same problem. Clean windows didn't fix, 13.12, 14.1, 14.2 no fix.

No, but I run another R9 290X now for 8 weeks in the same rig and not a single blackscreen or crash or whatever...
