i will use asus gpu tweak to change the core voltage and bring core clock to 947 and mem clock to stock 290
wish me luck

im hoping to literally transform the powercolor pcs 290 back into a stock 290, without changing the heatsink
i should be able to reduce heat output by alot, i notice when gaming over time, the amount of heat accumulates in the case, i wish the non-ref cards were more of an exhaust type card with just better heatsinks

I have a question, currently testing a TRI-X 290x and once I change the memory clock, the GPU Clock will stuck to 3d clocks at idle and only the memory clock will go down.
Is there a way to fix that?

Temps are absolutely fine.
And yeah im using 13.12 with Windows 7 64 bit.
My card is a Sapphire R9 290X Reference @ Accelero Hybrid.

As for 1080p, you are right, but im gaming at 2560x1440, and it seems like memory is doing a "good job" there.
The R9 290X Lightning @ 1150 / 1625 is 1 Fps slower at 1440p then my settings with 1200 / 1440.

yeah, i read that memory oc helps in higher rez.

it should work. i noticed 13.12 raised my vcore a bit or it could be just my imagination. so, i use 13.11 and 14.3 if i want to play with mantle.

On these waterblocks:

http://www.ekwb.com/shop/blocks/vga-blocks/ati-radeon-full-cover-blocks/radeon-rx-200-series/ek-fc-r9-290x-original-csq-nickel.html

Can that chrome\silver\nickel metal part be removed and not used? or possibly painted?

are you using 14.X? then, no

13.12 works fine however.

Mine actually sticks on boot with no OC applied.

13.12 fixed it, also the memory can run now at 1500 with 13.12.
So if someone his memory is not oc'ing well, it is because of the 14.3

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/8141281 P15941 with a Graphics score of well in excess of 18000

Dang your gpu score is so much higher than mine at same clocks. I get 17330 http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/7991243. But I'm not surprised, my Tri-X clock for clock benches much faster than the Powercolor PCS+. Variance is supposed to be 1-2% but the difference is much bigger than that. The Powercolor PCS+ has godlike cooling but it appears to be an underperformer. But I'm fine with it, I'll trade a few fps for the absurd cooling. A few folks are getting much much bigger underperformance though. I'm still in expected range for a 290.
