Afterburner b18 and catalyst 14.3 beta here.

What does GPU-Z show for the VDDCI voltage? Default is 1.0V I believe, so if it's not that then the overvoltage didn't reset.

It shows 1000, so I guess it´s stock... (I think I need to check this under load...)

But hey, new info...

I´d flashed another bios to the card (a reference one too) and get back to normal, 1300... instant garbage / blackscreen.

After setting again aux voltage to +75, 1625mhz stable... reverted aux to 0, still 1625 stable, reboot, still 1625 stable. So, AB changes something that wont be reverted. Maybe a registry change that stays forever because AB bug... not sure.

Also not sure what would happen if I go back to previous bios... but once you set aux... mem stability stays forever.

I see the MSI gaming 290 is getting cheaper and cheaper on amazon. Reviews say it absolutely sucks for overclocking. Anyone have it? Results? Could it do 1300 Core under the right conditions?

prolly noob question. aux voltage? I only have core voltage in my AB?

1300 on air is stretching it but very possible under water, my XFX DD cards can do 1250/1550 on air but not for long......vrm cooling for these is not so great, core cooling is fine though. As i said below, talk to Red about it.

Talk to @Red1776 he has 4 MSI gaming R9 290x's that are going under water with fullcover blocks.

They are ref design i think but you might want to check with red on that one.

@velocityx. On the right side of the core voltage there is a button that opens aux voltage.

If someone would like to report my experience to msi ab team.. I think it could be helpful.

Something really strange with my card, when its on load then starts cooling down it makes a kinda weird creaking sound, like when metal expands and contracts headscratch.giflachen.gif

Besides that and the fan noise this card is awesome, ran the Sleeping Dogs bench and got average 100FPS with everything maxed and AA on normal thumb.gif

Here's what happened:

1) I left the PC, and when I came back, the montor said unsupported resolution and I had to restart the PC
2) Windows 8 logo appears, but black screen after.....graphics card issue
3) Tried using iGPU, same story
4) Switched back to PCIe and let Windows do it's restore thing, and it uninstalled the display adapters
5) Once in the OS, I completely uninstalled 14.4 and rebooted
6) Tried installed 13.6 (I think), PC always freezes after the first (flash/blink whatever you call it)
7) Went back to Intel drivers, (had to do a rollback). Can no longer extend displays. HDMI port mimics Displayport, and there doesn't seem to be a way to extend

and now I'm stuck..... I really hope this has something to do with ULPS and it's not the VisionTek that is defective, or else I would have to put it back together and ship it back frown.gif

Once I figure out how to move my DOGEcoin wallet to my laptop, I will probably install Windows 8.1 and try again
Try re-seat your 290's. I know you're watercooling but you should be able to re-seat your 290's without draining the loop.

Will keep an eye on the VRM temps.....
After reading posts on the 290, some were unhappy with the temps of the VRMs when using universal waterblocks.
This makes me reconsider actually putting my card under water vs just keeping it on stock cooling

Universal blocks don't cool the vrms so you would need to put heatsinks on them yourself or buy a full cover block (best option)

vrms are fine at under 100c, as a preference i'd like them under 90c as much as possible, Mine actually hit 128c today when benching (took my eyes off HWiNFO for a few seconds doh.gif )
bigeyedsmiley.png What benching software did you run? Voltage?

I'm not surprise with this weird phenomenon. If I put Elpida card in the second PCIe slot, it feels like it's under-perform in Crossfire. When I put it in the first PCIe slot, it running well in Crossfire without any issue.

1300 is really high for Hawaii. I don't know that temps are the issue, that's just a massive oc most chips I'm guessing can't do. My card maxes at 1220, I can keep the temps in the 70s core 80s vrm1, but the card just can't go higher. Maybe I could squeeze out another 10-20 MHz with vrm1 at sub 70c. But I don't think I'm temp limited here.

I would be very surprised if more than a handful of folks here could hit 1230-1250 no matter the cooling solution.

Yeah, these chips just don't overclock that far unless you are willing to push high volts through them. I'm not sure anyone has done 1300 on a stock BIOS - most of those clocks are on PT1/PT3 I think.
