But I don't think I'm temp limited here.

I would be very surprised if more than a handful of folks here could hit 1230-1250 no matter the cooling solution.

rdr09 has hit 1300, i'm pretty confident i could too if i had better cooling, and considering i have "crappy" XFX cards i'd imagine alot of others could as well.

290's should clock higher than 290x's due to less shaders but it's till up in the air atm i guess.

Well i'll have these under water at some stage (probably 6 months away if i'm honest), i can hit 1250 on both cards, i haven't tried any higher than that due to temps, i still have a bit more room left to play with.

I just try today a little OC on my Sapphire Tri-x. Base cpu is 1040 i pushed to 1100 mhz, default voltage, +20 on the power using Trixx. I run some benchmarks (Valley, 3dMark) and was superstable at 75C max temp (fan automatic !!). BUT, when i try to high even the Vram (to 1300 at 1400) i get numerous video artifacts (on windows desk) and a black screen at end. Pc rebooted manually. mad.gif

Anyone have an explanation for that ?!?! Its really strange, with my HD7950 i can push the Vram at 1500 with no problem..ok the gpu is highly different...BUT a black screen, never seen it.tongue.gif

From watching the 3DMark threads, it doesn't appear that going on water helps these cards as much as it did 7970s. They seem to hit a wall that isn't temperature related, and there aren't many day-to-day 1300 cards around. There are only two submissions that are over 1300, of the 20 or so 290/290X cards in those threads. I guess it just depends what kind of voltage you are comfortable with though. But I wouldn't say 1300 is likely, even if it is possible.

Short answer is that they just don't overclock the memory all that well. You can try adding more core voltage, which seems to help, or put in some AUX voltage(which helps some people), but don't expect Tahiti-level memory overclocks with the new Hawaii memory controller. On the plus side, the 512-bit bus means you get crazy bandwidth even without super high clocks, so it all kind of washes out in the end.

I can get my core clock to 1250mhz for benches and probably a bit more but vrm temps will be nuts.

14.X drivers are unstable atm since they are still in beta stage. 13.12 will fix that issue so i'd suggest you switch to it. Uninstall with DDU first then install 13.12 drivers.

On 3dmark there's only several dozen 290xs that hit 1300 core, out of like 15,000 results on single gpu, any driver.

Thanks, i think something like that (i read some reviews). thumb.gif

Hey Trihy.....I had the same experience as you, My memory would not OC over 1400 but after increasing aux voltage I could get 1500+. By using trixxx to OC my cards instead of afterburner, the memory potential reset itself and I was back to my old 1400. Interesting stuff though! thumb.gif

I had the same problem with 14.2 and it totally disappeared after I reverted back to 13.12.
