Talk to @Red1776 he has 4 MSI gaming R9 290x's that are going under water with fullcover blocks.

They are ref design i think but you might want to check with red on that one.
Look like the EK water block is not compatible with MSI Gaming 290/290x cards.

Well guys, I got my PCS+ 290Xs in, and I'm pretty upset. I've been fooling around with them all day, and I can't get either one of them to perform better than the 290 I had. I remember on my 290, I got 64.7fps on Valley clocked at 1150/1450. The PCS+ 290X gets 63.9fps at the same clocks. Crossfire works as it should, essentially doubling the performance in the stuff that supports it, but the performance per card is really off, giving me lower than expected crossfire results.

I've reinstalled Windows 8.1, tried 13.11 Beta 9.5, 13.12 WHQL (both of these perform the same), and 14.3 Beta 1.0 (performs about 3fps lower), using DDU to uninstall each one. I've also disabled ULPS, and that didn't seem to do anything.

My Firestrike score is also lower than what I'm seeing online. I matched the clockspeeds of the Tri-X 290X (PCPer) to my PCS+, and it scores about 5% worse than it (Tri-X: 9934 Combined, 11260 Graphics Score. PCS+: 9349 Combined, 10636 Graphics Score). They even perform worse than G3D's PCS+ 290X, which already had performance problems (Firestrike: 9489 vs. 9784).

Also, comparing taem's Valley results to mine, I'm getting lower scores than he is (58.8 vs 62.9 fps). Keep in mind he has a PCS+ 290 non-x, and I lowered the core clock (1040Mhz vs. 1050Mhz) so it that it matched his.

Does anyone know what's going on here?

Edit: And if this matters, both have Elpida.

Edit 2: +50% Power Limit for all of this.

Hey guys, I'm planning on overclocking my R9 290 once I receive my water cooling components and I was wondering what is a good max voltage I should for 24/7 and from killing it too quickly.

Check out the Powercolor PCS+ thread, several folks having issues with underperforming cards, though up to this point all the cards having this issue were Hynix. RMA might be your only resolution. http://www.overclock.net/t/1462592/powercolor-pcs-r9-290/300_100#post_21988657

My Valley results are odd, they are too high. I should not be getting ~63fps at 1040/1350. So I've said before my Valley results should be disregarded as aberrant. My 3dmark scores are in expected range though. I'm still trying to figure out what's going on.

edit, ok I figured out one thing, I had CCC Texture Filtering set to Performance, and Surface Format Optimization was off. I set everything in CCC to default and ran Valley/ExtremeHD and my score went down:

Doesn't change the fact that your card is underperforming though.

This issue is probably becoming more and more widespread, and it's a shame that the large majority of owners probably won't recognize they may have gotten a bad card form a possible bad batch, but something is up with their PCS+ line of cards. Until I personally receive a working replacement and some for of explanation I'm going to recommend people don't buy the PCS line of 290s.

Btw how are your temps with crossfire? The cards being 52mm thick and giving so little space for airflow and all.
