I have the MSI 290X Lightning and damn the card is amazingly build and the packaging was the most insanely well done job I have ever seen. I am still tweaking it and I love it though biggrin.gif

Ok, I ordered some Fujipoly Ultra Extreme from FrozenCPU (shipping was $8 and takes 15-30 days but k) to tame my VRM temps.

Using a thin spread of regular non-conductive TIM (PK-1 in this case) on both sides of the thermal pad improved VRM temps by 5-8c but still not qutie good..

Adding the TIM have hurt you if you were using the Ultra Extreme.  The reason why EK suggests using TIM with their included pads is because the thermal conductance isn't that high.

Make sure you used the correct thickness pads and then I would retry without the TIM.  Several people have reported significant temperature drops in my thread for the upgraded pads.

What block are you using BTW? Aquacomputer VRM temps were already very good, so you may not have seen the decrease that XSPC and EK users have seen.

Hi Guys,
just finished with my overclocks but I have one problem with 3dmark.
I seem to be getting lower scores in 3dmark after overclocking.

OC: Core 1060, Memory 1500
Voltage in afterburner is locked
Used DDU to remove old drivers before installing 13.12 WHQL.

Got an increase in Valley on Ultra, Vsync checked and 8x AA from 34.0 to 36.1

Temps are all in check, Core is high 60 degrees celcius, VRM1 is 59 deg, VRM2 60 deg

Any idea why?

No I wasn't using them yet casue I don't have them yet. Can take up to a month for them to arrive. USA - Holland is pretty far smile.gif

I am using the stock Tri-X thermal pads which are just as bad as the EK ones (hitting 87c VRM1 @ +100mV with 65% fanspeed - now after TIM it hits 76c max).

I usually don't run Vsync personally, but have you been playing around with enabling/disabling tesselation perchance?

If the score has dropped then I would make sure the card is running full clocks throughout the bench.  Maybe try a little extra voltage.

Your RAM clock is high, which is nice, but pushing it too far for me sometimes caused issues.  Maybe dial it back a little, maybe 25MHz and see what happens.

True.. I feel like the issue here was the fact that I had the cooler off several times already cause I was mounting my backplate, repasting it and so on. This made some rips in the stock TIM pad which isn't all that thick to begin with.

Temps are decent now, but as the core is only at ~66c load i'd like to push to about +160mV so I can stabilize 1200Mhz. Only thing keeping me from it are VRM temps tongue.gif

Can't change voltage in afterburner...is there does trixxx allow for voltage change?
dialed memory back to 1400, now i can't even run 3d mark without artifacts.
