120 Hertz is great, I agree! But 144 Hertz is really a marketing thing, because a human being can not see the difference between those 2 biggrin.gif

The whole point is but the card downclocks just fine under 120 Hz! 22Hz difference makes it speed up the clock from 150MHz on mem to 1300MHz

What are the drawbacks of disabling AMD powerplay?

I will also be getting a replacement plan to not have to deal with asus rma. What should I get? And will the asus sabretooth work in trifire? It has the same slot layout as my current gigabyte z77-ud5h. Which would be ideal as i can use that second x1 slot for my sound card instead of the bottom x16 on the p9x79 ws. Anyone?

I can't recommend you anything but the R4E, you can install your sounblaster on the second pcie slot and yet having a 16x/8x/8x cf with the first, third and fourth pcie (@16x) slots wink.gif

The 144hz issue is an old issue. All the gpus do it. Its a problem with the dvi/dp clocks or something

None. you just control the 2d/3d clocks by yourself with msi AB profiles.

Disable powerplay. The default profile is the 2d clocks. Then you create another one profile with a bit higher clocks. Thats your 3d clocks. (someone needs to test it i had my 290s only for mining, but on 7970 works this way)

Ps. By the way i dont know why you guys bench with powerplay on. The performance with powerplay off is higher and you dont get stupid bugs like my gpu doesnt downclock, flickering etc etc. But powerplay off sometimes can cause bluescreen if you use hardware acceleration

Sounds like a mobo issue but performance wise, you aren't losing much. Maybe 1-3 fps out of 100 so nothing to really worry about.

Fujipoly Extreme is in. 100x15x1.0mm is plenty for 3 mounts for primary VRM's.

On my Tri-X VRM temps dropped ~10c depending on fanspeed.

Further testing in progress now.

Ok, let me rephrase. These being the only boards in stock and the only ones that qualify for the $50 cash back at microcenter in paterson, nj. What would be WRONG with running three 290x on the above boards?
