@Arizonian Sure, I agree its not so bad, but I would like to do some things to bring it down a bit. The cards themselves seem to be very nicely built, have a good solid factory backplate, and the sink and fans seem to keep up really well when it is considered how hot the reference cards get. I will definitely always reply to folks, I do however work a lot and not all of my responses are very timely:)

If there is, you can just make something to help it up. Thats one reason why I love the new high end cards. Everyone is putting back plates on them now. For me, I have the HAF XB from cooler master. The card sits with the side the heat dumps from standing up, so there is no way for it to sag. It pleases me because seeing pictures of sagging GPU makes me mad. How anyone could just let it bend like that and not try to help it is beyond me.

Hopefully MSI ships my 290 tomorrow so I can know the feel of a sturdy gpu again.

Exactly!
The inner plate is well fixed with a lot of screws on the backside of the card's pcb and more, the 5 heatpipe cooler and the inner plate are assembled altogether, you can't only remove the main cooler without the (vrm & memory cooling) baseplate wink.gif

This will ensure a nice rigidity of the card and, of course, no sagging for such a huge and long video card

does anyknow of it the https://www.dazmode.com/store/product/back-plate-for-kryographics-hawaii-r9-290x290-active-xcs/ will fit on the EK blocks? Or if at least ports match up? so I can buy two Kryographics blocks and add them with black plates

I want to add to more cards to my loop, but I don't want the regular EK block anymore mad.gif

I don't know if they'll line up or not. I thought about doing the same thing, though. That active back plate looks incredible and seems to perform really well.

anyone tried a mod bios on his Sapphire Tri X?
I don't like the vdroop of the card that during firestrike extreme the gpu voltage go down up to 1.09 in some areas and that's already @ 100mv

I contacted Daz, and he's "almost positive that port will not line up". Looks like my next two R9 290s will suffer under EK's poor block frown.gif. Even that passive AquaBlock is incredible.

I was even thinking of buying the EK backplate, but it doesn't seem to be doing much.

Yeah, the first block I was looking at is the EK nickel. That block looks really nice, but I think I'm going to go with the XSPC Razer. I love the clean design and the LED, plus it will match the CPU block I'm getting. I might still go with the Aquacomputer block just because of the ridiculous performance it offers, especially with their backplates.

I believe the active back plate is around $75 by itself, but man it looks sexy.

You can either sell the EK block & get Aqua water block + backplate, or replaced the stock EK thermal pad with Fujipoly Extreme or Ultra Exteme thermal pad. I'm happy with my EK water block (+ Fujipoly Extreme thermal pad on VRM1).
