All I need is the motherboard and the CPU wchich will be the 4930k or 4960k which should remove any bottlenecks.

I was thinking about the Rampage Extreme 4 But then I thought Maybe the Cards will be 2 close Because of what I am about to consider, and here it is:

I was thinking Of getting a 7 PCIE Motherboard And having the cards Seperated by 1 slot Each If you can picture it? Now On top of this separation I will remove the Standard cooler and in replace it with the GELID Icy Vision Universal VGA Cooler Rev 2 For each Card

What do you think about this guys? Aswell as All this I will have a good Case which will suck HOt air out and suck air in,

This should quite the cards down aswell as cooling them , I know its possible with the ref cards to have them sitting next to each other as they are designed to suck the air out from the outer edge and blow it out the front.. But they do get pretty loud from the sucking.

What do you think of my setup above? with the 1 x PCIE gap between each card and change the standard coolers to GELID Icy Vision Universal VGA Cooler Rev 2 ?? I do not want to Create a massive water cooled setup , I want a simple but effective setup that does not take that much space..

Isn't it bad to mix power supplies? even if you do share common ground wouldn't you have different voltages coming from the mobo and the pcie connectors? I've seen power supplies dip as long as 11.3V whereas others go as high as 12.7V

You might want to look into getting a powered 16x riser for your last card and cut the 3 12V+ wires. That way you have the same power supply powering the 3 12V pins aswell as the pcie connectors.

I'm assuming you are powering one card with the 650W and 3 + system on the 1200W.

You could probably get away with all 4 on the 1200W and 440W to power the system.
but then each card would have to be "cut"

I currently have a sapphire 290 tri-x and am looking to grab a 2nd in crossfire. In Australia prices have currently come down a lot. My options are

(1) Grab a 2nd hand reference card (ex miner) and slap on a kraken g10 & h55 as well as some extra vrm heat sinks. $430 USD for the card + g10 + h55.

(2) Grab a retail Gigabyte windforcex3 (non oc) currently on sale for $437 USD

(3) Grab another sapphire trii-x for $500

My priorities in order are performance --> noise --> temps

Any input would be amazing.

Hmm, second option?
The first one is good as well smile.gif

May I join the club please? This is my picture from launch when I got my XFX R9 290x BF4 edition:

No comments about my paper :-p, it's my wife's and that's what was handy.....

Anyway, I'm running my XFX 290x on custom h2o loop, XSPC Razer 290 waterblock:

Temps went from throttling at 95C to benching (Unigine and 3dMark) at 57C, which interestingly enough, that's the same temp as my CPU under load. While gaming the temps are around 10C lower.

I finally got to overclock it today, and using MSI Afterburner, I can take the Core Clock to 1110 and the Memory Clock to 1375 without any voltage mods. @ 1400 on Memory I get artifacts on my desktop.

maybe you should wait. Canada is getting alot of love from AMD cards right now. The the 290X OC version of that gigabyte cards goes for 410USD here.

The regular R9 290s are floating around the 330USD range before tax.

Find hwinfo and download it you might also be able to see vrm1 temps in gpuz some cards do some dont. check the vram temps make sure there under 65C. Also how many and what type rads. The 290Xs usually run under 50C core and vrm1(more important temp then gpu on these) under 55C - vrm2 under 50c but depends on the rads.Looks good though did you get the back plate that helps lower the temps also thumb.gif

Beat me to it. Thanx @Roboyto. Was thinking of purchasing a few strips of the Ultra Extreme and 1 of the Extreme since i figured it would not affect shipping costs. Right?

Yeah, it won't affect shipping costs at all.  That one strip of Ultra Extreme 15mm x 100mm can easily cover VRMs for (2) cards; possibly 3 if you cut very carefully.

I bought a XFX R9 290 Black OC edition, with the stock bios and 13.12 drivers on air I could run a OC of 1180/1625 Stable for playing games with MSI AB, (Mem Elpidia went that high because of +13 Aux Voltage).

Benching Firestrike I could go a little bit higher OC and did some 1200/1625 runs that was the max I could do.

I recently installed an EK waterblock.
And also flashed an UEFI capable R9 290 bios because I wanted to use ultra fast boot on my system, I forgot which bios it is have to look that up, still using the 13.12 drivers.

Now I can bench up to 1300 Core clock and 1500 Memory on Firestrike with +200mV on Trixx.

However I'm having huge difficulties finding an OC for gaming again.

For some reason with MSI AB and +13 aux voltage my memory can't go higher then 1250(stock) anymore before crashing in game.(red screen and blue screen hard locks)

Also with +200 I cant go higher then 1150 Core clock anymore., yes maybe 1160 or 1170 but 1180 I get hard locks and black screens.

And to top it all off i've been gaming for a week on 1100/1250 with no problems what so ever, and now yesterday my GPU began throttling during a gaming session, just out of nowhere and I could see huge frame drops and lag.

I am going to flash the ASUS PT1 Bios and see if I'm still having issues.

In the meantime is there anyone who could give some pointers of what might be the problem? Or what could be different, I guess It all could be the Bios switch that caused it or maybe when I reinstalled my OS and MSI AB I forgot to set some settings or with beta 19 instead of beta 18 something changed with AB.

What I would like to have is a 1200/1500 Stable OC for gaming, but I can't use Trixx for that because I can't up aux voltage which I need for higher Memory OC.
And with AB I ran into the problem that I can't go higher then +100mV without doing some mods Ugh.

Can I use GPU tweak with the Asus PT1 bios, is there an option similar to aux voltage? to help memory OC?

I believe Kizwan said he couldn't measure temp drops because he did the pads on the card and the backplate at the same time.  I will be adding the pads to my backplate soon, I can let you know what happens with mine.  Using XSPC block/backplate.

Leave the RAM pads.  I upgrade them and didn't get any change in performance.

I wouldn't suggest using thicker pads for the RAM.  The block is machined for those specific thicknesses.  Putting thicker pads on RAM will affect how the rest of the card sits and inhibit performance is more critical areas; i.e. core and VRMs.
