I was kind of expecting it to be some sort of driver/software issue. Considering your hardware the numbers just were not matching up. Good that you got it resolved. thumb.gif

Asus is on my never buy list for GPU's now, very disappointed in them over it

Does that DC2 cooler problem effect the 280x version? I'm running 4 of them for mining and they stay cooled well considering the ambients. Although at least 2 of them have developed a nasty fan rattle at high fan rpm, if they stay at high rpm for to long. I think the bearings may dry out or something, but once they come back down in rpm they are quiet again...

The Die on the 79xx/280x is in a diamond shape rather than a square, 280x is fine from what i know, check out the 280x owners club though for a user that has them.

Conversely, your RAM runs fine @ 1500 MHz - mine is artifacting on the desktop instantly after I set those 1500 MHz. Ingame, it also leads to a blackscreen. biggrin.gif

Btw.: I just sat down after a new bench-session and created a new graphic. Contrary to the assumption of a big FPS-profit when using VRAM-OC and heavy-SSAA/Downsampling combined, it gets clear that besides benchmarking, VRAM-OC is almost useless on the Hawaii-GPU. In addition, you pay 82% power draw for an fps-plus of ~15% when using an OC-cripple as mine biggrin.gif

Nice setup, looks as it should have an excellent airflow!

Any chance you could check it at 1200/1250 and 1200/1400 to see if memory overlooking helps once you've overclocked the core? I tested it when I first got my card, but I can't find the results any longer. I don't think it helped there either though.

So I just got my replacement Tri-X from RMA today. Strangely though after some benching in Heaven, Valley, and Firestrike I am seeing quite a lot of microstutter and mostly in Heaven actual stuttering (as in the frame freezing for an entire second). It's definitely not thermal throttling as the cards are running at 80c/67c max during benches. I got BSOD error a0000001 which doesn't seem to be a very common error code when running Firestrike as well. This is running both cards at the Tri-X stock OC (1040/1300) I wasn't seeing any of this stuttering before with my previous Tri-X and I thought frame pacing was supposed to have fixed this.

Any ideas on what's causing this? I'm on the wqhl drivers.

Edit: Shortly after I posted this my screen went black with a beep and all I could see was my taskbar and a very slow moving cursor. Had to manual hard shutdown.

that's generally what onboard audio does, or if you have a cheap soundcard right next to the card.

what ASUS dont tell you is how cheap their DCII cooler actually is, its no more expensive then the reference blower.

and yea it generally affects the 280X too, the 79x0s (and 280X DCIIV2 and matrix rebadges) are just as bad, lower fan on my 7970DCIIT is shot and only good on <40%, ASUS's RMA is just the card sitting on a shelf for a month and they ship it back to you.

So I've done a bunch of testing and I can't seem to find anything wrong with my fresh out of RMA Tri-X. In fact, it's actually a heck of a lot better than my old card was. It runs cold as ice (maxing out at 70c in Heaven/Valley with 60ish% fan speed at +75mv, or 74c with the auto fan), and is completely stable at 1125/1500 +75mv. The only issue is when I try to run it with my Asus I just get massive stuttering and some weird occasional crashes and blackscreens. I don't get any stuttering with the Asus card running solo, but as I have stated on here numerous times before I have to underclock the memory on that card to stay stable.

Sending in my Asus for RMA seems like it will accomplish nothing as numerous users have reported on here Asus just takes forever and then eventually sends the card back to you and you're out $25-$30 for shipping. I'm at a complete loss of what to do here now as it seems like I am just totally stuck with a $600 paperweight.

Do you mean the Sapphire Tri-X OC?
I bought one and had to RMA it back to the Egg.
I couldn't even get my computer to Post with it installed.
They paid shipping but stuck me, somehow, with a restock fee.
I guess because they had nothing I trusted then to replace it.
My MSI Lightnings weren't even for sale back then.
I used to trust Sapphire, but not any more.
I found my last Sapphire, still in its box, just last week.
An X800 PRO LE, still with a huge chunk of copper water block from Danger Den mounted on it.
I had problems with that one too, but I found out it was driver related.
Still, it drove me to Nvidia for years afterwards.

There is one way to find out you know. Worst case you go back to your current driver.

As for me, I just got tracking on my 290 Gaming Edition. Will be here tuesday this coming week. Cannot wait to join the club. thumb.gif
