Here is a review by kit guru.

Based on the review and design of the card, being that it has a custom pcb, more phases, better chokes, and better cooler then it would essentially run cooler and oc higher. If the fans are exactly the same as the Tri-X then they would be on par in terms of acoustics are concerned but since in the benches it shows about roughly 5C~ better it probably wont rev up as high, plus there is the hybrid switch, which makes the card run on 1 fan until it hits 60C or something. Judging from my perspective from the Tri-X (not vapor) I feel the cooler is low noise during idle, stays at about 20% till higher temps and keeps temps lower than reference. At load it feels like an average cooler because the R9 290(X) series definitely run on the hot side. In my opinion msi gaming and asus dc2 run more quieter but those are the coolers designed for the 700 series. Now I don't know if they revised it with the 200 series but I heard they used the same design and thus not cooling as effectively and it doesnt cool everything but in my opinion I think the msi gaming is super quiet, 2 bigger fans vs 3 smaller fans.

So if I were to rank based on sound I would say msi gaming > dc2 > tri-x, and dont get me wrong as for average users this is silent. I'm just anal with sound and I consider anything above my noctuas to be loud rolleyes.gif but I've heard the 780dc2 and the 770gaming as well as 780acx/classy and the 290 tri-x and out of all of them I feel the gaming to be the most quietest, but again if they didnt tweak up the cooler then it would be kinda useless.

Cooling performance I would lean toward the vapor-x as the custom design helps a lot. If you're in the market I would check out the vapor-x. I personally made the mistake of jumping too early and getting the tri-x but I don't really regret it, though I do prefer it to be quieter. tongue.gif

Thanks for info! Last question: Is the Corsair TX650w PSU compatible with the Vapor X R9 290?

Yeah it should be more than enough unless you plan on getting another one later on but for single gpu setup you should be good thumb.gif just double check that you have 2x 8pin as the vapor-x needs it.

It appears to have the 6 +2 that hang off, they are still okay right? Might actually order this card! tongue.gif

Yeah most psu connectors come like that 6+2 = 8 configuration just in case the card only takes 6

I concur, a good 650W PSU is enough for a 290(X) even with large overclock. I'm using a Rosewill Capstone 650M and it's enough for my 290 up to 1300/1700, 4770k @ 4.5,16GB RAM @ 2400mhz, 3 SSD, HDD, and a water pump.

If you're using an AMD FX CPU, specifically an 8 core and it's OC, you may need a larger PSU as they are pretty power hungry. They will draw nearly as much as a highly OC 290 depending on how far they are pushed.

Depends on the application and the amount of CPU overhead. For the most part, yes there will be some bottlenecking. Even my 3930K bottlenecks these cards, but it's more due to the applications only being coded to utilize 2 cores and a part of a third core.
