That's kind of my point. So +1 R9 290X and CF seems like a feasible path.

Heh. That stealth edit.

two 290x's pull about 70 fps USING MANTLE at 4k
Three pull about 82 FPS using mantle,

So is there even a point in going CF R9 290X's? or just give up until 4k gaming is optimizable for non-millionaires?

Currently I have 2 [Samsung U28D590D], but I'm only running one (the other is setup with another rig).

I'm contemplating buying another and using three of them together.

My question is, should I buy another R9 290X and CF them for the triple (or even double, both @ 60 Hz) 4k setup? I will only ever be gaming using the 1 display, but having to run x2 displays at 30Hz using HDMI puts me off even for non-gaming use.

Thoughts? H4LP.

Personal opinion: get another 290x and possibly a 3rd depending on graphics settings.

The only reason i'm thinking of getting a second R9 290 and run CFx. Just for 4K and plus i see 290s going for $270 now so i might run R9 290X + 2x R9 290s or R9 290X + R9 290

@HOMECINEMA-PC Is running a 290x + 2 R9 290's in Tri-fire atm.

from memory the 290x is a 290 that unlocked so he would be the best source of info here for real world info and experience

Not interested in Eyefinity, just wanted to deal with FPS issues whilst gaming on a single 4k monitor. tongue.gif

I guess I also wondered, would x1 DP 1.2 port per 4k monitor be preferred, or do people find HDMI/30Hz okay outside of gaming?

Should give you a good indication though, for a single 4k screen there are reviews all over the place with these cards

Keep in mind, you don't have to max settings at 4k, it really looks better just on its own. I bet if i make a poll on what screenshot was low,medium.high.etc... people would probably not get it right that much.

I have to say, I am really satisfied that now people are giving correct info regarding crossfire than the simple false statements that they were giving just a few weeks ago, where they all yelled that they would run at the same speed.
The closest explanation to what really happens is:

It can be seen through GPU usage. (The card "waiting")

Hope that now all the crossfire lies that have been spread will be cleansed from OCN.

Please do, I'd like to check the results biggrin.gif
Poll for several games too! BF4, BF3, Thief, Metro, Crysis 3 are some of the names that come to mind.

Edit: Sorry for double post redface.gif
