Tried to update my drivers to the newest ones (CF 290x + 290) and every time my PC crashes when the installation is almost done.. Any tips? I am on 14.4 now and it works just fine.

Also, kinda disappointed with CF. Of all the games I play, every single one has issues with CF.

Pretty tough to beat the price to performance on a used 290.

The market on used 290s is so cheap right now. You can get good cards like the tri-x 290x used for 250-270 now. I am sure reference cards go for close to 200 for people putting blocks on these.

Well, I'm finally going to get my second-hand, formerly mining, 290 TriX back from RMA and with all the fuss about GTX970 cards and 290 prices dropping I think I'm not going to play with OC or WC to get it to 1250 MHz, I'll just buy another second hand 290, even if it needs to be RMA'd within the first month. Thank God I bought 850W XFX instead of 550W when I was building my rig. I'll have much more performance than I need for 1080p, but I like that. It will give me possibilty to upgrade to 27" or more some time next year.

It's a good price if you are adding it to another 290x in your current system and you have the power for it, but if doing a single GPU upgrade, OR building a new system, you are still going to want to spend the extra $30 to go to GTX 970, or wait for the next AMD cards in my opinion....

I did notice one thing though, gpuz showed my 3rd card running pcie 3.0 @ 1x??? hopefully this is due to the driver and not my RIVE board taking a dump frown.gif

I usually do the option to uninstall without restarting about 4 or 5 times, then the option to restart. But you'd just hit the power button and turn it off after it came back to the boot screen. Then disconnect power and let her sit a bit. Then reinstall drivers, shut down and repeat the power down technique. Worked for me anyway. Hope it does for you.

Well, yeah I pretty much agree with you but a lot of guys are getting the used ones for 250.00.... that's a hard bargain. And a good deal less expensive than any 970. Still the 970/980's are sweet and I'd love to have one. But holding off on new monitor first.

I wish 4k was developed a bit more. They still seem a bit buggy to me... I want higher refresh rates than 60hz, which pretty much leaves me with 1440 displays right now. 4k is so beautiful to look at though I'm so torn on what to get... 4k at 60hz or 1440 at 100hz +...? What do you guys think I should do?

you disable crossfire first prior to uninstalling and installing drivers?

first time i crossfired after over a year (7900s were first) and my games work. no issues here.

edit: i disable crossfire, shutdown system, unplug power to secondary car, boot, and proceed to updating driver.

Hey on that note, does it hurt to leave a card in the slot with no power run to it? Of course it wouldn't be used at all. I'm just wondering if it could mess something up leaving power disconnected and not really doing anything sitting in the motherboard while the other card is running?

Long term? Like if you just left it there for say 2 months until I get a 1440 display? Wont' hurt anything?
