Now that you mention it the way I have the pump setup makes it harder to access the variable speed notch.

might be able to bore a hole through the case just under the HDD so you can adjust the pump speed.

i have a slim 240, thick 360, similar res, and same amount of blocks as you using the setting 4 is perfect.

Hi guys, need your advice with gpu choice. It is between XFX 290X DD 8GB and MSI Lightning 290X 4GB. XFX is cheaper but it's negligible.

Awesome, thanks.

I would go with the MSI Lightning. Haven't heard anything special or particularly good about the XFX DD cards.

So guys I was testing my card today and found out something very weird.
Yeah, the blackscreen problem.

Let me tell you more. I have ares 3 which is 290X in cf. Monitor is benq XL2730z
The issue is related to GPU1 clock and it depends on monitor refresh rate. If gpu1 clock is 1200+ and refresh rate is more than 60Hz its blackscreening.
If it's 60Hz only, all is fine, no blackscreen problem.

I'm using Lindy Chrome 2m cable which is really good cable.
I tried to set different ram clocks, and I can tell it doesn't depend on ram clock. I went from 4000MHz to 6600MHz.
I tried to bump VDDCI voltage too, didn't help.
Doesn't depend on gpu 2 clocks.

It happens mainly for example, if the states/clocks are going from 2d->3d.
So if I run 3dmark 13, and setting between tabs(benchmark, custom, feature test ....) it blackscreens.

Anyone ?
Can it be 20-pin DisplayPort issue?

The Lightning without a doubt, the XFX 290X has VRM cooling issues and only OK core cooling. The Lightning has great core/VRM cooling, and a beefy custom board.

Hi guys,

I've found a deal on a brand new Sapphire 290x Vapor X for around $70 cheaper than a new msi 390x 8g.

Are 290x's and 390x's essentially the same, besides clock speeds and Vram, will the performance be similar? Is the Vapor X a decent 290x or a dud? Which one would you go for?

Sorry for all the questions, i don't have time for a lot of research. thumb.gif

Vapor X are pretty decent. Even a good clocking 290 will perform similarly to the 390X.

But, if the 290X, i'd go with a used one. 2cents.gif

Definitely, and the VaporX is a beastly cooler. I have a 290X VaporX 8GB that does 1250mhz/1650mhz on air. Pretty ridiculous tongue.gif

True!

One of my reference 290s does 1222/1725 scores better than an unlocked 290X that does 1250/1500.

And Core is not always king. thumb.gif
