Yeah, memory OC is hit and miss with these cards. My HIS can do 1500 on the memory but my Gigabyte can only do 1450 and barely. Both can do 1200 on the core though.

Yeah, both of mine hit 1250+ one will do 1280 on core. But one of the cards will only do 1325mhz on memory lol.... what a waste. Luckily, gaming doesn't really need it, so I don't care. I bench with my strong card, but game in Xfire. I only run 1250 mem when gaming. Just no need to push harder.

BIOS can fix that. thumb.gif

Other bioses have tighter memory strap timings that limit overclockability. Esp for Elpida memory. Some bios also have missing memory straps that the next defined strap may be too tight for the memory capability.

Looking for the perfect BIOS for your card, though, can be time consuming and may not be worth the hassle.

It can also be due to your card's ASIC quality and the theory that memory Voltage is linked with the VDDC. I think higher cards have lower VDDC at DPM 7 that may be affecting the Memory Voltage.

Edit: The BIOSES available from TPU for GIGAs, for example, have tighter timings than most BIOS from other makes.

Interesting. Maybe I should have a go at the BIOS. Just don't have a lot of motivation to do so. Know what I mean?

Aaanddd you were right lol. I tried running Metro 2033 since that one always taxes systems pretty good and the GPU usage readout was very stable this time.

I'm actually enjoying Arkham Knight even tho it has questionable performance on even high end PCs, it mostly stays at 60fps for me with the biggest issues occurring when driving the Batmobile (stuttering & erratic framerates).

Thanks.

My cards, both Elpida & Hynix, can bench at 1200/1600 but since upgrade to Win 10, I can't do both core & memory at the same time anymore (at same voltage). I use 390X modded BIOS on my Hynix card as a workaround. I can get same bench score that I got with 1200/1500 at 1159/1501 with the modded BIOS. Overclocks seems more stable with modded BIOS but don't quote me because I didn't test it thoroughly. The modded BIOS however introduced instability on my Elpida card. So I stick with 290 TRI-X OC BIOS with that card.

Stable with instabilities biggrin.gif

I feel the timings on the modded BIOS is the culprit on my cards. As they introduced 1250 timings on to 1500 strap. (not too sure, I didn't look)

Though some are getting better bench scores on them. I just don't want Black screens.
