first download hawaii bios reader and learn how to flash a bios (its super easy so dont panic)

extract your card's bios using gpu-z and open it with hawaii bios reader

make it look exactly like this:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
save the bios and flash it

now open afterburner and in settings/monitoring set "hardware polling period" to 100 and close settings

then detach MSI AB hardware monitoring and make its window very big (like more than half of your screen)
now U have an @idle memory torture test biggrin.gif

then start UVing with sapphire trixx until blackscreen happens

shut down the system and switch bios using physical switch on your graphics card ( unless windows wont boot )
when windows booted up , shut down the system and switch bios to the modded one
(u have to this step every time U get blackscreen)

now set "the voltage that caused blackscreen+12mV" and fire up a benchmark like unigine valley
let it run for a while and if there were artifacts,BS,driver crash,etc.. start underclocking
if there were no artifact then u are so damn lucky and overclock the core

then start lowering power limit untill u got what u want tongue.gif

hope that helps thumb.gifrolleyes.gif

The memory wasn't supposed to be at 1000 mhz at idle, i messed up since Hawaii bios reader messed up the clockspeeds with this bios, but this is just a Quick bios mod to show something that you can do. Notice the voltages and the clockspeeds. It made it through firestrike without a problem http://www.3dmark.com/fs/6411494. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Thanks for the tips. So far only tested memory at 1600 with +0mV & firestrike completed without any issue. I'll try lower voltage later. I honestly never tried overclock memory only, so I don't have baseline to compare. Haha.

+rep for both of ya. thumb.gif

So Windows 10 will not let you install your own GPU drivers. I just tried, DDU to remove the auto installed package, installed 15.7.1, upon reboot, Windows auto installs its own package. No way to stop it on the Home edition of 10. It's a weird install, doesn't require a reboot. Seems to work ok. But not allowing gamers to choose their own discrete gpu driver package seems insane. Am I the only idiot who chose to upgrade to Windows 10 on a gaming pc?

A lot are on Win 10 now. I upgrade from 7 ultimate so i got 10 pro.

That's unacceptable.. What if the latest driver release is broken? MS have stated that driver and compatibility issues have dropped, so what they're doing must be working, but taking away peoples choice is a load of bollocks..

I'm hoping I'm doing something wrong, and someone can correct me. Because if you can't opt for beta driver packages, I would think that's a deal breaker, gaming wise, for most folks.

Is it different for Pro version users? Afaik with Pro you can opt to delay updates, but at some point it will auto install just like Home. Maybe that delay is long enough so you can manually install drivers, and then repeat the process everytime the auto update does kick in?

3dMark also reports the drivers auto installed by Windows 10 to be "not approved." AMD Gaming Evolved keeps telling me to update to 15.7.1. Shrug

No idea man.. I went back to an old driver version a couple weeks back, and they didn't change until i manually went back to the new ones a few days ago.

There must be a fix for home users somewhere though.

when I did it, DDU "said" it is stopping this windows auto install thingy to prevent installing drivers.
Download the newest version, run it in safe mode and it should tell you it's disabling windows instalations or check this column here:

Are you on Pro or Home? Because I didn't touch that button, I only clicked "Clean and Restart." My understanding was if I leave that alone, I get to manually install my drivers and Windows won't auto install over it. But if I click it, then update settings go to Default, and Windows *will* reinstall the drivers it wants to. But as soon as I restarted WIndows installed new drivers anyway. I'm on Home obviously.

So do I have that right? You leave that button alone, right?

I don't ever worry about that button. Like u said windows will install its driver but that doesn't matter since CCC will remove it upon installation

i didnt touch it.
It said that its disabling windows automatic instalations and after that if I want to enable it I need to press the button.
Disabling automatic instalations should be offered automatically.
I'm on PRO version.

DDU 15.5.1.0 (the latest afaik) tells me no such thing about preventing auto install by Windows update. I guess this is a Pro vs Home issue, unless there's someone here on Windows 10 Home who is able to manually install catalyst drivers and *keep* them without Windows automatically updating over it. Windows 10 Home wants me to use 15.201.1151, and will not let me manually install. I just tried it again, re-downloading DDU just in case. Same result.

I'll be interested in seeing what happens to the Pro users down the road, because afaik, with Pro, you can only delay auto updating, not prevent them entirely. With Home your only option is whether to let Windows auto reboot after updates, or tell you to reboot.

If my understanding of all this is correct, there's no way gamers can use WIndows 10 Home, you have to get Pro just for this, and even then, it might just be delaying the issue. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here. If Pro will allow me to choose my own gpu drivers, then I would pay the $99, but not if it's merely temporary.
