I am completely lost about what you are saying.

Your initial install of AMD drivers (as from the sounds you are not wiping everytime) was with 1 card or 2? I am simply relating to initial install of CF, if you install drivers over old drivers that already have CF all bets are off. I do not know about this as I have never done I always DDU then install new drivers every time.

I am saying that if you start clean slate, and install the drivers with 1 gpu only turn the system off. Install the second card, reboot the pc. You will not have CFX options in CCC, your cards will both show up in AB or GPU Z ect however the option for CFX is not there.

However maybe in some cases it does work and you do get CF options I did not and google will show you 100s of threads of others that did not as well as AMD Matt saying you need to reinstall after adding a second card.

To SGT Biko, "Ares and Devil 13 use a custom PCB, they do not follow the reference design"
That is why I have been saying this entire time.... It is a non reference design of a 295x2, however they did not just decide lets make a Dual GPU, they cannot do that all AMD GPUs are based from an AMD reference design and then altered to there wants.

AMD Design the cards board partners alter them, nothing more.

Speaking of here is from Asus's website "Made for water-cooled rig featuring custom-designed EK water block – running at 25% cooler than reference R9 295X2"

Looks like Asus does call the Ares a 295x2.

And you are right Vesuvius is the code name, it is also the code name for the Devil 13 and Ares 3.

The PowerColor Radeon R9 295X2 Devil 13 which is also codenamed ‘Vesuvius’ (Official AMD naming) features two Hawaii XT cores with GCN 1.1 architecture. With two Hawaii XT GPUs on the same board,

Oh BTW here is another reference point,
"PowerColor’s Radeon R9 295X2 Devil 13 will feature a custom designed PCB which we can’t see at the moment but its really beefy in terms of design"

Read more: http://wccftech.com/powercolor-radeon-r9-295x2-devil13-unveiled-monstrous-pcb-design-requires-8pin-power-connectors/#ixzz3zPTZUrGM

Just because they say 2x290x in the naming scheme does not mean its not a 295x2 a 295x2 is 2 290xs as well.

Generally, its accepted to call the dual gpu card design directly from amd is whatever the name amd gave it for the consumer level: Ie 295x2, 7990, 6990, 5970, 4870x2, 3870x2, etc. AIB partners can and will launch their own dual core gpu products though to ensure we can distinguish them from the factory "reference" dual core design, its usually named differently. I think a lot of the confusion comes from the Tahiti (7970/7950/7870-XT) and New Zealand (7990) era. PowerColor launched their card under 7990 (AX7990 and AX7990 Devil for the oc version) in late 2012 if I'm right (Asus still uses Ares and Mars names to distinguish their dual gpu cards). While amd was still mulling over a challenger to the GTX 690, it had no product so I'm sure it had no objection for PC to use "7990". Eventually we did get a 7990 from amd and it lead more to confusion. With the hawaii launch, Vesuvius (295x2) was named 295x2 while products from Asus (Ares) and PC (Devil) were dubbed "290X x2" or "dual 290X". So, part of the blame for the confusion comes from Amd and ppl who don't keep up or understand the (very wacky at times) naming schemes of both gpu companies tbh.

In the 295x2 club, we do welcome both Mars and Devil 290x X2 owners (the 390 non x X2 devil owners have their own club/thing) and we all get along and help each other. There are more 295x2 owners but ultimately, most issues may be experienced on either side. Some unique features do set us aspart, and one of them is that the 295x2 reference model from amd is thermal limted to 75°C to preserve the aio system (from nazi asetek). My cards are under Koolance blocks (and have been most of their lives) since I got them in early 2015. Even still w/ water blocks, I'm still limited to 75°c and ive seen it happen when I accidentally unplugged the power to the fan controller (trying to fix a rattling fan). Another common thing for our group is power requirements and if a power supply can be used w/ this beast. Its so confusing i took the liberty of compiling a long list to help answer this question (took a few days).

I did have a triple Sapphire 290 OC setup not too long ago, but then switched to dual 295x2 biggrin.gif

You dodnt know where I got my info from yet you just linked it lol. Its on that page right there read!. I directly copy and pasted from that very page that you just linked.

Then read my updates, Board Partners are not allotted the ability to just make whatever the heck they want. They have to follow a reference design and make changes that AMD deems okay. This is why we do not see Dual GPU cards prior to AMDs release, the one exception to this is the Devil 13 dual 390x however in the case of that it is simply a 295x2 with more Vram and some tweaks ect just as the 390x is to the 290x.

Dude what they decide to label it as has no bearing on what it is, they can call it whatever they want it is still a non reference card based on the 295x2 period.

Some unique features do set us aside, and one of them is that the 295x2 reference model from amd is thermal limted to 75°C to preserve the aio system (from nazi asetek). My cards are under Koolance blocks (and have been most of their lives) since I got them in early 2015. Even still w/ water blocks, I'm still limited to 75°c and ive seen it happen when I accidentally unplugged the power to the fan controller (trying to fix a rattling fan).

I did have a triple Sapphire 290 OC setup not too long ago, but then switched to dual 295x2 biggrin.gif

I don't know where you get your info from....:confusion:

https://www.asus.com/us/Graphics-Cards/ROG_ARESIII8GD5/
http://www.powercolor.com/US/products_features.asp?id=549

You dodnt know where I got my info from yet you just linked it lol. Its on that page right there read!. I directly copy and pasted from that very page that you just linked.

Then read my updates, Board Partners are not allotted the ability to just make whatever the heck they want. They have to follow a reference design and make changes that AMD deems okay. This is why we do not see Dual GPU cards prior to AMDs release, the one exception to this is the Devil 13 dual 390x however in the case of that it is simply a 295x2 with more Vram and some tweaks ect just as the 390x is to the 290x.

Asus and Powercolor both sold the R9 295x2 AND they both created Custom Dual GPU cards called the Ares 3 and Devil 13.........which they listed and sold as R9 290x2's or Dual 290x cards

also to add i think you are confusing what nvidia does with what amd does .... i never heard how asus has to ask amd if the ares is ok, acctually i read an article about i, but i probably wont find it, currently in china and cant use google ( no i am not joking )

amd lets companies make their own choices unlike nvidia when it comes to nonref boards, they dont need amds stamp of approval,

ref boards of course they just follow the blueprint

That is correct they both sold refrence 295x2s then they made custom board options as you said, I agree on those counts. That is no different from a MSI Lighting 290x or a ASUS DC2 they are still however 290xs just tweaked boards.

nope, dual core 290x

again nope

hey look this one does
http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/powercolor-radeon-290x-295x2-devil13-review,1.html

but it is guru3d, so no big surprise there

another nope

http://www.tomshardware.com/print/powercolor-devil-13-dual-amd-r9-290x-review,reviews-3853.html

another nope
http://www.modders-inc.com/powercolor-devil-13-r9-290x-dual-core-review/
so you have 1 sad site who does and what 4 others who dont, that tells me 1 site epic failed ( big surprise guru3d.... ) ........

feel free to show proof of all these other " sites "

Okay lets do that,

First here from your links,

http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/powercolor_devil13_dual_core_r9_290x_8gb/
"PowerColor has again been thinking outside the box to deliver what is essentially an air cooled R9 295X2... "

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/66784-powercolor-devil-13-r9-290x-dual-core-review.html
PowerColor’s R9 290X Devil 13 goes back to basics by utilizing virtually the same specifications as the R9 295X2 but backing things up with an infinitely more adaptable fan-based heatsink.

http://www.tomshardware.com/print/powercolor-devil-13-dual-amd-r9-290x-review,reviews-3853.html
"Now, PowerColor is trying to improve upon the first workable reference design we've seen from AMD in years with a gigantic air cooler. Is this an act of deft engineering or blind ambition?"

Okay so now you want links of review sites that call it a 295x2 in the title no problem.

http://www.fudzilla.com/35401-powercolor-devil-13-dual-gpu-r9-290x-reviewed
"PowerColor is not using standard R9 295X2 branding for its dual-GPU card. It calls it the Devil 13 Dual GPU R9 290X. The marketing plan is simple – PowerColor wants to differentiate its dual-Hawaii card from the rest of the field."

http://wccftech.com/powercolor-radeon-r9-295x2-devil13-unveiled-monstrous-pcb-design-requires-8pin-power-connectors/ In the title.

http://www.tweaktown.com/news/37990/powercolor-expected-to-unveil-its-crazy-new-gpu-at-computex-next-week/index.html

http://www.hardwareheaven.com/2014/06/powercolor-devil13-r9-290x2-graphics-card-review/ Calling it powercolors own branded 295x2.

Not a reviewer but PC parts picker calls it a 295x2 as well. https://pcpartpicker.com/part/powercolor-video-card-axr9290xii8gbd5
