BTW - I want to apologize to all the members who copied original Club signature from OP - it was a link to third post not first post. It's been updated. redface.gif

Darn I was crazy busy that day. tongue.gif

I've had the card for a couple of days but put me on the list, no serious overclock yet as I have not got my Accelero Xtreme III yet.

Oh well, never mind that. All the talk about black screening and it's possible link to memory manufacturer kinda spooked me.

You guys know of any sure-fire way to test if I've got a super massive black screener in hand?

Just play some games, some benchmarks... any real stress on the card will show you if you have a black screen card.

You could OC mem to 2000 and watch it melt. Might be aMUSEing, but I wouldn't recomend it wink.gif

Seriously though I'd just try some games out since I guess that's what you bought it for.

Well I can confirm that switching to windows 8 from 8.1 has zero effect on black screens. unplugging the output and plugging in a different one has no effect either. Time to RMA this POS.

Anyone attempted flashing the pt1 bios to a 290 yet ?

Asus bios / 60C / 1.300V / 1000/1250 =450W
Asus bios / 40C / 1.300V / 1000/1250 =430W
Asus bios / 20C / 1.300V / 1000/1250 =410W
Asus bios / 60C / 1.300V / 1250/1450 =465W
Asus bios / 40C / 1.300V / 1250/1450 =445W
Asus bios / 20C / 1.300V / 1250/1450 =425W

That overclock of 1150 on air (which is quite hard to get) to 1300 on water is going to provide more than a 10% performance increase. That is just the core clock, you can increase the memory clock as well with better cooling.

The original question was if the wattage would be enough. On water with an average oc (1.3v 1250mhz), an 850 watt psu isn't going to cut it. Don't change the question to "double the wattage isn't worth the performance increase".

Wow, you are dense. The list is incomplete so you have to pick and choose to make a point. The air clocks fit best as the temps were 65C and the clocks were based on 1.175V. In fact, those clocks and voltage on water would only mean that the power consumption goes down from the air example due to lower temperatures:
Quote:
Temperature (medium impact on wattage)
PT1/PT3 bios / 90C / 1.400V / 1300/1500=595W (not a good idea for 1.4 on air)
PT1/PT3 bios / 80C / 1.400V / 1300/1500=575W
PT1/PT3 bios / 70C / 1.400V / 1300/1500=555W
PT1/PT3 bios / 60C / 1.400V / 1300/1500=545W
PT1/PT3 bios / 40C / 1.400V / 1300/1500=535W
PT1/PT3 bios / 20C / 1.400V / 1300/1500=525W
PT1/PT3 bios / 10C / 1.400V / 1300/1500=520W
PT1/PT3 bios / -50C / 1.400V / 1300/1500=490W

1150 with 1.2V or less seems pretty reasonable under water. Water isn't just for extreme clock speeds, it is also used to reduce noise, lower temperatures, and have a more stable 24/7 OC. Is there any rule in place that suggests that you should use 1.3V to reach 1250 MHz when on water? 1250MHz is only a 8.7% OC over 1150MHz. Even with improved memory clocks, performance gains will not exceed 10% but power consumption would be up 71-78% which still means that you can run two cards at 5-10% lower frequencies and still use about the same amount of power as a single card. And since crossfire scales really well... thumb.gif

LOL. yeah... I might not be OCN level 'PC enthusiast' just yet, but the 2000 MHz thing kinda seemed like a no-no to begin with tongue.gif

Iguess the same advice would apply to coil-whine? Jus do my thing and keep my eyes (rather: ears) peeled? wink.gif
