Looks like I blew the top most mosfet in pic. It's almost black compared to the others.
(Must have had one heatsink on poorly) Is this something I can remove/replace/bypass?

that guy is supposed to throttle the GPU when it goes above 110 degrees, it shouldn't be able to go boom. Is the card voltage/power modded or using the pt3 bios?

Wondering if anyone can help me pinpoint my problem with R9 290 crossfire:

Here's my problem: I plug in one R9 290 into PCI-e slot 1 and OC it, it can take 1125 core and 1450 memory @ +50mV. I take it out, and plug the other R9 290 into PCI-e slot 1, and it can OC to 1125 core and 1400 memory @ +50mV. I take it out, plug it into PCI-e slot 3, and it can overclock the same amount. But when I put the other R9 290 back into PCI-e 1 and enable crossfire, I can run 1125 core @+50mV but I must keep memory stock at 1250mhz. It won't even go up to +25mhz to 1275mhz memory before black screening. I have also tried setting both cards back to stock clock (947mhz), but I still can't seem to get any sort of memory OC.

How can I proceed from here to pinpoint the issue? I am thinking the motherboard does not like crossfire?

System specs:
  • ASUS X99-A
  • i7 5930k
  • 32gb Corsair ram
  • 2x ASUS R9 290 (reference) with Kraken G10 and H55, with individual VRAM heatsinks and Gelid VRM heatsinks
  • M.2 SSD

Here are things I have tried:
  • Update and do a clean install video driver DDU in safe mode etc
  • Update Motherboard Bios (it's the latest)
  • Run another card in Crossfire (Ran 1x Sapphire R9 290 (reference) with 1x ASUS R9 290 G10+H55 Mod.... still won't take GPU mem OC
  • VRM temps are 70 deg under full load after running for hours
  • GPU temps are 65 deg under full load and after running for hours
  • Increasing voltage doesn't do anything to mitigate blackscreen on mem OC
  • I upgraded PSU from old Thermaltake 1250W to new EVGA 1200W - no difference in stability
  • Ran independent VGA power cables from PSU to cards, as opposed to the one cable that splits into an 8-pin and another 6+2 connector.. no difference
  • Re-seated both GPUs multiple times
  • Keep CPU at stock speed
  • Tried different OC programs (Using AB right now)
  • Disable ULPS
  • Force constant voltage

Things I have not tried:
  • Different motherboard (nobody will lend me their X99)
  • Different RAM (don't know how this would make a difference)
  • Have not tried SLI/crossfire with a different set of cards...say Rx480s or 970s
  • Have not fiddled with AUX voltage much
  • GPU BIOS Flash

dont go higher with momory clock read a bit here

My temps are 31c to 45c with a block for reference.

1150/1500 +38mV +25% powerlimit
ambient temp 25C, push-pull 1800rpm
I know it'd be wiser to get a RX480 but a decent 480 8GB costs 250$ in my country
so 150$ for the same performance is pretty decent I guess wink.gif

Nice! I'd be careful on the memory OC though, sometimes gains nothing/slightly loses performance.
