While you might not have to put them in slots next to each other, i believe my z87 board would mandate it, as slots are 3.0 x16 (native), 3.0 x8 (native) and then 2.0 x4 (pch)

If it was my money, I would go with the 290x. If money wasn't a concern to me, then the 780 Classys w/ EVBOT all the way.

Well the reason they dropped the CF cable is because they tested the 290X in crossfire @ x8 x8 2.0 and noticed barely any performance difference. So I doubt x16 x8 would really net that much of a loss.

What i mean is: You have a choice; Either you put the cards next to eachother, or you put one of them in the 2.0 x4 slot from the pch

Wow, thanx for the replies guys. To be honest, I came into some cash so my top budget is $2500 complete. To add to that, I am not very savy with all the terminology and lingo used in the comments lol...

All I know is that I want a kick ass computer for the next 3+ years.

I already own the RAM as it was an upgrade to my current pc. Also, all of my shopping will be done in person at a local Canada computers.

No offense to AMD but I want to go the nVidia route as I am an AMD user now and haven't had a lot of fun with crossfire 5770's.

I will look to overclock after the build has had a chance to run for like a month.

I will be looking to buy and build this weekend.
