upgrading 7970 for 1440p gaming

As the title says in looking to upgrade my system for 1440p. I'm currentlu running a msi 7970 tf3 oc to 1200mhz core and 1500 memory with 3770k oced to 4.5ghz all on a corsair gold ax 750watt.

I'm wondering what my best option, is it better to pick up a second 7970/r9 280x. Or should I jump straight to a 290x?

As far as prices are concerned when buying new 280x's tend to be cheaper. Ultimately it depends on your budget, but if you're not watercooling I would wait for the non-reference coolers for the 290x to hit the market. Also, it might pay to wait for prices to adjust.

Running 1440p on 280x CF here. It's completely fine once you set it up correctly.
The best option $$$-wise would be probably get another 7970 and wait for next-gen cards.

Just heard that a 290(non x) @ 1200 core is considerably faster than a Titan.... O.o

If this card releases at what $400 that would be a complete steal! I'd say wait and see for what the 290 has to offer.

The thing is atm i cant even find a 7970 thats under $350. I feel like I should just go with a 280x or just wait till christmas time and pick up a 290x.
