As for hyperthreading vs. none, HT only adds 10-15% performance of a "real" core, so your i3 with Dual Core + HT has the raw performance of about 2.3-2.6 cores in raw synthetic benchmarks. Almost no improvement in gaming vs. a Dual Core with no HT.

Most of the games out there aren't optimized for multiple cores anyhow, single-thread performance is the top consideration for today's titles. Of course there are exceptions, and future games will eventually be multi-threaded as a norm.
