2.8 on a sempron? That's still no good for CF. 2.8 on a sempron is probably like 2.3 on an AMD64

uhh, no its like 2.7, it only has half the cache, sure, but its not that big of a difference . and the 1600 for the HT, sure its low, but u have to lower the HT on the Athlon to OC too.

It is a big difference. The difference between Sempron and Athlon is not just the cache. I've seen a benchmark before where the Sempron was OCed to about 2.8 and an Athlon was stock at 2.4. The Sempron had much bigger bandwidth in tests, but when it came to real-world performance, the Athlon completely dominated. The Athlon, in games, got around 70FPS while the Sempron system only pulled around 30-40.

I smell Conroe fanboyism....

That CPU will be fine to start you out. Get a good Motherboard, good ram.

That patriot will be fine, it is plenty fast enough. Since this is gonna be AM2, that ram dosent need to OC all that great.

I don't think it's fanboyism, but I do think he is misinformed. The difference between a Sempron and an Athlon 64 is certainly not 30-40 FPS. That would be absolutely ridiculous.

There's was no mention of "Conroe" or "Core 2 Duo" in my previous reply...

Have you ever had a Sempron? They're good for basic computing (internet, email, just having a working computer) and that's it.

I too advise you to either go for a Conroe or Athlon build. You go for a sempron, and you'll see no benefit. You'll even be disappointed, as it will be slower than your current computer. It will hold you back big style.

The AM2 Athlon option is cheaper, but not as good as the Conroe option.
