Nvidia reference GTX 660 Ti 2GB vs ASUS Direct Cu II HD 7970 3GB Vs MSI Twin Frozer IV - 130$ vs 200 CAD. Which one is a wiser choice?

Hi guys, so I'm going to pull my trigger on either a GTX 660 Ti 2GB or a HD 7970 3GB Or this MSI twin frozzer IV GTX 670 this Sunday.

They are all slightly used.

I don't favor AMD over Nvidia or Nvidia over AMD. I'm not a fan boy of anything just looking to make a wise decision. For that I would love to have some inputs from you guys.

P/S: I game on a single 1080p Monitor. I do, most of the time play "this DX9 Online FPS game" at 1024*768 ( I know right haha) but this is not a problem since the game is "CPU heavy" and that is taken care of by my modest 4.4 Ghz FX 6300. I sometimes feel the need for triple A titles as well (I might be able to hold off and buying a decent card now too if that is the best thing to do).

The reason it is this Sunday is because me and my family are going to the States for shopping purposes and we are going to pass by these sellers so ...

I have a 7950 @ 1150/1400 on my 4.5 Ghz 3570k and my wife has a 660ti @ 1200/1790 to on a 4.4 Ghz 2600k, my setup does better in benchmarks and games that are GPU heavy. Obviously she wins on CPU heavy games. Her's is also the 3gb version. Its pretty much a toss up and what side you favor. At 1080p both are going to do you just fine.

7950 hands down. Card has bigger potential, its more comparable to gtx670 performance wise. Unless you play lots of PhysX titles i'd go with 7950. thumb.gif

Great inputs there CircuitFreak and ekg84 that's the kind of advice I'm looking for.

Though I'm not a fan boy (Like I stated above).

Is it just me or Nvidia cards play older tittles better? (For instance I used to get ~ 200 FPS all the times with a stock FX 6300 and an EVGA GTX 560 Ti 448 cores FTW in "this DX9 Online FPS game" but once I switched to a HD 7870 I had to overclock my CPU to at least 4.0 GHZ constant to get almost the same experience by that I mean smoothness and no spikes).

Something about frame pacing? I kind of notice a less enjoyable experience in BF 3 as well when switched to HD 7870.

A little update the HD 7950 is gone frown.gif

If you guys don't mind I'm going to throw in an ASUS direct Cu II HD 7970 at 200 CAD to the mix.

So let say If I were to resell my card in the future, which of the two GTX 660 Ti reference and ASUS direct Cu II HD 7970 is going to retain there value better? (Let me guess the ASUS?)

7970 is in a different league, and with new r9-280x being a rebranded 7970GE these cards will be with us for awhile. 7970 will definitely hold value better, in fact $200 is a damn good price for that card.

Thanks ekg84 yah I know about the the R9-280x but given they are sold for 299$ at launch? according to AMD. In the future, promotion might bring it down further more . Idk GTX 670 might be dropped as well soon. With all dat pressure from AMD

How about the MSI twin frozer IV MSI GTX 670 for 190 ish 200$ ekg84?

How much of a difference between the HD 7970 vs HD 7950 and HD 7970 vs GTX 670 in % ?

Oh and BTW that is one sexy rig you have there ekg84 biggrin.gif

Thanx man biggrin.gif, that rig is ever changing.

A 670 for $200 is a pretty good deal as well, but with a 7970 for the same price, i'd go amd route. Performance wise at stock 7950 < gtx670 < 7970, but OC wise it all depends on particular card's OC potential. From what i've seen nicely OC'ed 7950 will trade blows with OC'ed GTX 670 and a 7970 pulls ahead a little. By another 10% or so depending on a game.

For what its worth I played BF4 Beta with my 3GB 660Ti on one of my 1440p monitors and i had fun.
I gave it a slight 100mhz core clock and i started to consider grabbing a second one for my triple monitor setup, mind you i put everything on Ultra.
Sometimes i am not sure about all these benchmarks and such, to my untrained eye, the game played fine with no tearing or abnormalities aside from the occasional beta crashing.

I am tempted to buy another one just to test it out for my own personal curiosity.
