[Build Log] Captivation II - RIVE, 3930k, 3-way SLI 780 - Chilled by Nature

I present to you my newest project: Captivation II.

ASUS RIVE (EK CSQ)
Intel i7 3930k (EK Supremacy CSQ)
3x EVGA Geforce 780 (EK FC Titan SE, EK 3-way parallel terminal)
32GB G-Skill 1866 RAM
XFX Pro 1250W PSU
ASUS VG248QE Surround

2x Coolgate Triple 420 radiators
12x Viper 140mm S-Flow fans
2x Swiftech MCP655
FrozenQ Liquid Fusion UV Blue 250mm
Scythe Kaze Master Fan Controller

My radiators will NOT be mounted anywhere near my PC. I live in TX and adding more heat into the room is just plain madness sometimes! So I've decided to mount my radiators next to my window. In the fall/winter I will probably have fans pointed inside, in summer time I will definitely turn them around. I will be running 40ft (12m) tubing from my PC to my radiators and vice versa. At the window I have my radiators, fans, reservoir, 1 pump, and fan controller all running on a no-name 300W PSU. The other pump will be located near my PC running on the regular PSU. If the external PSU fails at least I will have a back up pump.

Loop order: res -> pump -> long amount of tubing -> 780s -> RIVE SB -> CPU -> RIVE VRM -> pump -> long amount of tubing -> radiators -> res

I ordered 40ft of tubing, I hope this will be enough. I ordered 2 temperature sensors, to be used before and after the radiators, to see how effective my cooling set up, hoping that the water temperature doesn't equalize.

My case is an NZXT Switch 810 (black), but I will just be putting some low speed case fans in there, and of course the blocks, tubing, and a valve for draining the PC section.

I'm waiting on tubing and a few fittings, and should begin building next week when my final shipments arrive!

Yes, this is finally happening! Here are some pictures.

Project has commenced. Received shipments this week and I have started laying out the loop.

I'm starting from the radiators and will lay out the loop from there. I'm slightly disgruntled as I forgot to order a male to male rotary fitting, so for now I won't use a valve for draining, but just a stop fitting.
Anyway, should be doing more work on it today, but here are a few pics so far:

Drilled two 3/4" holes for the tubing to go through.

I'll have to do some cable management.

Subbed as well, this looks like a great build! Are you using a RIVE or are you going to wait for the RIVE BE?

Just a "normal" RIVE.

Running a test loop. Pump variable speed works fine, radiators do their job also. Had some fans running, opened the window and the temperature dropped quickly. Closed the window and vice versa.

Bad news though, my blocks are not compatible with the EK Bridge, I should have bought the EK Terminal.... Someone could have told me that frown.gif. Also, the motherboard blocks are a fair bit lower than my CPU block, so I'll have to buy some male to male fittings. Man, was hoping I'd get done this weekend. Looks like it shall be next. Anyway, here are some random pics.

Not much progress, waiting on the EK terminal to arrive on Monday, and some spacer fittings so I can properly raise MB/Mosfet blocks to CPU block level and tidy the loop.

Major progress!
The loop is closed and connected! Did a loop test for about an hour or two and decided it was enough, and hooked everything up and it all works!

This loop setup obviously isn't working, unfortunately, as it was my preferred one.

Didn't have much luck with this one either. Tubing can be very rigid and hard to maneauver when it's short.

Ended up with this. CPU -> Mosfet -> MB Chipset -> GPU -> Pump2 -> Left Radiator -> Right Radiator -> Pump 1 -> CPU.
It actually works out quite alright and looks good too.

Inside loop is complete, with an easy drain system.

Drilled holes and mounted the pump!

Disconnected my previous "no PC parts connected" test loop (hence the towel). Carpet enjoyed some water.

Loop complete and leak testing! Picture is overly bright as I had a lamp shining brightly on the parts so I could spot liquid easier.

The other side of the leak testing process... everything is still a big mess, I need to figure out how I will mount the fan controller and I need a proper switch for the CCFL.

I need a course in cable management. Since this is now part of my setup too (everywhere my loop goes is part of the setup I suppose), I will sort this out soon.

I have not yet pinned the tubing to my bed/desk/wall etc, so what else should I have used to guide the tubing?! Heavy engineering books ftw! smile.gif

Alive and running! Still need to smooth out the edges obviously.

Crappy panaroma, but this is how it looks now, not bad, just need some cable management and cleaning skills.

To do list:

- Sort out fan controller, I'm not getting the speeds I desire (1600rpm fans are only running at 1250rpm when maxed out)
- CCFL light needs to be turned on! Need a proper 2-pin inverter cable + switch
- Cable management at the window section, beneath my desk and inside my case
- Pin/mount the tubing to static surfaces like my bed, desk or wall
- The weather to stop raining so I can actually open the window and enjoy being Chilled by Nature
- Benching, testing different pump/fan speeds, etc
- Overclocking
- Gaming

Right now I am have my window section shut off entirely. 1 pump is running and a bunch of YL 800rpm case fans (so radiator is passively cooled at the moment). My idle temps are 30C for the GPU and 35C for the CPU. And it's very very silent. That is all for now! To be continued!
