Mini-ITX. All anyone needs. Convince me otherwise.

I feel there's 2 sole reasons why anyone would need a case/mobo larger than mini-itx.

1. More PCI-Slots
2. More Overclocking Options/You like big cases for some reason?

Is there any reason someone should even bother if they don't overclock or use more than 1 PCI slot?

EVERY CPU I've ever tried overclocking just eventually ran into stability issues and I'm just done with it. I've never even noticed performance gains anyways.

Is there anything else really a micro-atx/atx offers? On-Board audio is good enough for the majority these days.

I'm wanting to move to ITX as soon as my caselabs case sells..... The only reason (for many)... would be a soundcard... but i would rather an external one.

I'd add water cooling to the list of why someone would want to go bigger. Even with a single GPU (which may be a dual 7990, which would produce more heat), theres not a ton of mini ITX cases that accommodate enough radiator to do that. A better sound card would require more space, maybe a TV tuner card? Some people prefer the looks of a larger ATX case than a mini ITX case. Its not safe to assume theres no reason for larger cases just because you don't want one.

SLI/CF
More sata ports
Full watercooling
benching

Other than that, miniITX I believe is here to stay and will continue to get better.

SLI - IMO not worth it EVER. True if you have unlimited budget why not though. Depends on the games you play too. For me, buying a x70 nvidia card every 2 years works.

Sata Ports. If 4 HDD's aren't enough for you maybe you should build a server or something?

Watercooling (no point if you don't overclock)

.....

You do realize that watercooling makes the machine silent right? Theres no point in having a quiet machine? Well you lot can enjoy your stock fans at 100 decibles, I'll enjoy my whisper silent machine.

K so i forgot about quietness... but there are low decibel fans as well.

Still doesn't prove any point though. You can manage some closed water-cooling in some mini-itx cases.

No "quiet" fan is ever going to compete with 15200mm of radiator in complete passive mode., and no that isn't a typo.

SLI/CF is a good value if you buy a single card for year one and on year two you get another one used for half the price. My SLI 670 FTWs cost me less than $600 total over the span of two years and I get more FPS than Titans/780s/290x and it trades blows with the 690s.

So if SLI/CF isn't worth it you must upgrade your single card a lot (which can still be a good value if resale is good) or turn down your settings every few months. Some people like to stay near the top settings for every game and some people play at resolutions that can't be handled by a single card.
