[3770K] Help me past 4.5 GHz.

Thread Starter
So my settings are:

Cpu ratio = 35.
Turbo boost = 45 on all cores.
Cpu voltage = Normal, -0.05 V (1.3 V load on CPU-Z).
LLC = Low.
Power savings on.

I have tried setting the cpu ratio fixed at 45 and turbo boost off, with all power savings off. With that settings, I got worse score on 3DMark11 physics test by up to 0.4 FPS .

I am so noob in overclocking.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

i havnt overclocked a 3770k before, but llc usually have done magic with sandy bridge, i stabilized my i7-2700k (cooled by a corsair h100) at 5.0ghz with my llc at extreme mode on an asus maximus iv, could not have done it without llc, try to raise you llc level and see if it helps u stabilize your 3770k.

Hello SsXxX,

I tried extreme on LLC and now I'm 4.7 GHz @ 1.46 V on load. This is bad, right?

hmm, your voltage are a little high for a 24/7 . . . but if you insist on it:
what cooler are you using, and whats your temps under load? if your temps does not go more than 85C while doing intelburntest, you will be fine mostly.

usually temps up to less than 90 under 100% load on intelburntest is okay for 24/7 as intelburntest drives the highest temps ever (higher than usual load), so other apps would not let the cpu go more than 80C if intelburntest goes to 90C, but in your case your voltage are a little higher than favorable so i say 80-85C under intelburntest so that your cpu never goes above 70-75C under normal load, do the test and report your temps back:

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Benchmarks/IntelBurnTest.shtml

but honestly if you want my opinion i dont see the 200mhz up from 4500 to 4700 worth the big jump in voltage and ofcourse the temps, 200mhz will not yeild much more performance specially when the temps are much higher, as cpu's usually work better when they are cooler, also higher voltages shorten the life span of your cpu, i say keep it 4500 and enjoy gaming, after its your pc and your free to do whatever you want.

one more thing, are you setting the voltage manually or setting it to be automaticly controlled by your mb?

i advise going manual as mb's usally overestimate your voltage needs and drives more than needed voltage which in turn will shorten the cpu life span and cz higher temps.

Well, the temps are ridiculously high. It gets 102 C in just 2 secs burning of standard test eek.gif

I use normal +0.08 V, with extreme LLC. Full load is 1.46 V.

Is there anything I could do to lower the volt? Like changing PWM Phase control, VCore Voltage Response, VCore Protection, etc?

102C !!!

downclock at once man !

you havnt told me whats your temps when 4.5ghz and 1.25V?

again man, the 200mhz is not worth it, believe me it will not improve your gaming performance, 4.5 is excellent specially with 16gb of ram and with a yes its a good motherboard but its not top of the line, you will need a g1 sniper, asus maximus or the likes of those to go on higher clocks ( and those mb/s are double or even triple the price of yours), so trust me 4.5 is good with your current mb thumb.gif

I got 78 - 85C @ 4.5 GHz and 1.3V. I can't do it at 1.25 V.

I guess I'll have to stick with this clock then. ohno-smiley02.gif
