Well, speed and range can influence the damage you take, but I just assume that every one goes their max speed and just does the "orbit at whatever km" that works best for their weapons. The only tactics are in ship mod setup...and in a one on one it will just be rock, paper, scissors there. If a caldari and a Amari frigates go at it and the Caldari is setup for tanking kinetic damage...the Amari will win. Nothing can be done to change that unless the Caldari gets lucky with the minor EW that a frig could be carrying (but that would make their tank even worse and likely just kill them faster) or the Amari was sleeping or makes some major mistake like orbiting at 500m or something.

Well I'm happy to agree to disagree on this one, after playing the game for some time you really learn the intricacies of PvP. There is lots of strategy, and weak points to exploit even in fleet battles. In really huge battles (which I do agree aren't really as fun) it is more just clicking and moving from one target to another, so wormhole or small gang PvP is where most of the fun and intensity is.

Like what? It's probably been near two years since I played the game. They might have changed something since. What kind strategies are there that can be employed in a fight? A side from the EW aspect...it seemed all pretty dry to me.

I probably had more fun in fleet battles...it was rare for a gang to ever find much action in my experience. It usually consisted of jumping for an hour and half just to come in system to find every one docked...fly around and blow up some mining cans...and head home. Some times I'd actually beg for some one to come out and pod me so i would not have to jump back. Though is was out in 0.0 space if you couldn't tell. in the beginning I think I had more fun in high sec doing corp wars...but then it was still just sitting around waiting for a hostile to appear on the scanner. I never took part in gate camping...I drew the line at that level of boredom. I put wormhole scanning and camping into that as well.

Seemed to me that no matter what you just sat around for hours...I am not one that typically needs instant gratification, but I found I have limits. I still manged to play the game for few years though. I am a sci-fi junky and Eve Online is pretty much the only sci-fi based MMO out there of any popularity. So if they've changed things to make the game more interesting I'd love to know them. I'd probably start playing again.

If you are looking for self customisation, nothing beats EVE Online.

You choose what skills to invest in, and it actually matters what you choose. In order to learn all your skills, assuming you have unlimited resources (money to buy implants and such) it will take you 18 years, 145 days, 19 hours, 27 minutes and 6 seconds to get every skill up to max.

That's why it's important to specialise in EVE. What you choose to do with your training time is really important.

I was gonna say the same.

It's interesting how we look for this virtual life in wich to progress and it is I thinnk because in real life things sometime suck too much. 1000 papers to get a permit mounths to wait and stuff and stuff of burocratic things to hear no.
To do foot reflex zone massages you need 800hours of another school + another 500 hours of practice. Of coure meanwhile in school there is rent a stomac to fill and taxes. (I just become officially a masseur and meanwhile in school the law to practice footreflexzonemassages recognized by the health company changed).

If you want to do something with action, for example drive a motorbike as it should be driven, they say me you can go in a circuit. Well the daily cost for a race on a circuit is of about 300-600$ here where I live. So ...no! It's better to play online games: real adrenaline with virtual things.

I really enjoyed The Legend of Grimrock for that. I completed the game as the DWMA top Weapon Meisters Maka, Kidd, Crona and Blackstar from Soul Eater.

I have also really enjoyed Kerbal Space Program, with the career mode there is an advancement tree and honestly I have even progressed in my understanding of space travel/ rocketry knowledge.
