R9 290X with Core i7 920 @ 3.8GHz - need your expert opinion :)

Hi guys,

I'm currently running a core i7 920 aircooled and OC'd to 3.8 GHz.

I've been out of the loop, but was hoping I could get your opinions on if this CPU will sufficiently be able to push this GPU to its maximum potential, or if I should start thinking about building a whole new PC (cpu, mobo, memory).

I think itll be slightly bottlenecked for most games at low resolutions/graphic settings - that just means you can crank the details to Ultra with little loss due to CPU.

BF4 is bottlenecked by CPU in multiplayer.

If i were you i think its just slightly unbalanced, but maybe you can hit 4Ghz itll bring it in more in line. In either case, for gaming, the i7 920 + R9 290X is ok, and waiting till next generation to upgarde is fine.

Using a Titan this shows us that there is a 7fps difference between an i5 2500k@3.7Ghz and an i7 3960X@3.9Ghz, for min - and virtually identical for average fps.
