Memtest86 throwing errors, few questions.

Thus is on my Clevo X7200 notebook with an i7 980x, 24GB RAM(3x8GB), and GTX 485M SLI.

OK, so I've been having lots of BSOD, and even Linux Mint has been crashing. A couple days back I ran memtest86 and didn't have any errors. Although it was an old copy of memtest86.

Since I installed Linux Mint, it also has a of memtest86 to boot too. I decided I'd boot to it. Ran it while I slept. Here's what I got. (pic below) I think this might explain all the BSOD I've been having. I hope anyway.

I really hope it's the memory and not the CPU. I really want this problem fixed. This has been the first good news I've had trying to diagnose the issue. Just don't know how the memory could have gone bad

Any idea if this is any Dimm in particular, or all 3 dimms are bad? I think it looks like a single Dimm. Just not sure which one.

Would this explain why I can't boot with hyper threading? Any attempt to boot with hyper threading results in an auto restart as Windows begins to load. A big boot loop.

Over the next few nights I plan to run each stick individually.

Most likely you'll have one bad stick, but you're already on the right path. Just check each stick individually and find the offender.

Sounds good. Thanks again. Let it run a bit longer and got quite a few more errors.

Looks like I'll most likely be ordering more RAM. Hopefully the next batch is reliable. Now after looking on Newegg my story seems common for this type of ram. frown.gif

Go figure... Corsair Value Select... redface.gif 24GB for $100...G.Skill it is next time. I should have know better lol

Last question, would these memory errors and bad memory cause me BSOD when I enable Hyper threading? When I enable Hyper threading, windows restarts as it's loading. Just sets me into a boot loop. Would the bad RAM be the cause? Is there any correlation between RAM and hyper threading?

I believe it could be a large impact, yes. But that's just a theory, I don't have a solid reason.
