Help! CF MSI 7970s freaking out after 'The Mod' attempt! - Page 3

So zip tie method isnt fool proof? Im thinking of modding my upcoming 290X with a rounded AIO cooler something like the ThermalTake Water 2 Extreme - http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX39192 seems to be a good performer

Or is only the H60 and Kuhler 620 the only ones that work with "the mod" ?

The round pumps make it more simple with zippys but the bracket works well with square or round pumps

It isnt "fool proof" with the zip tie method. If you dont have the right zipties with the right increments in notches you may run into problems. "may".
Some people can do it super easy with no problems. If you mod a bracket with screws/machine nut it usually will provide the best results but you can still run into problems if you didnt get a proper seat done...

Any AIO can work for "the mod". It is "how" you apply the AIO cooler to cool the GPU. That is where the uncertainty is. But any AIO can be used.

Aesthethc, I'm sorry I ever doubted you smile.gif

Pulled off the pump/cold plate to find out the shim had shifted almost halfway off the GPU die. Reseated it with a friend's help and I can now knock out an hour-long Planetside 2 session w/o incident. Consider my problem solved.

Thats good! Yeah see, it was just a bad seat. Glad things worked out for you smile.gif

Its a good skill to know how to seat your coolers. wink.gif

I think it's less about shape and more about size. 620 has small round pump, so it's pretty easy to work with. I am not sure if 240mm radiator is necessary. We're only cooling GPU, VRMs are passively/air cooled, so that heat is not transferred to liquid.

I am running 7950 with fan set to 50% on 620 with good temperatures. (25C idle, around 60-65C under load).
