It was supposed to go to 4.0ghz.

Still wondering to see if that overclock was trully needed, just depends on turbo core feature imo

I'm not sure if this is 100% of it, but when the CPU is using less than 125watt of power, running lightly threaded apps (5 > cores) its supposed to help single core performance by goosing the speed to 4ghz. Using more cores yields a lower boost multiplier.

to me, unless there us some compelling reason like motherboard computer is going to explode like a 72 Pinto or something by the CPU pulling over 125watt, why not enjoy the extra performance smile.gif

AMD intentionally gave you a little overclocking leeway. That is the whole marketing behind the black box unlocked CPU thing smile.gif
