GTA V is a great game that put an insane amount of detail into its world. The fact that it even runs on current gen consoles is also impressive. However, in terms of story, character development, and immersion, I feel other games delivered a more polished experience. Still, I can't say GTA V is entirely undeserving of the title. Like I said, it put a lot of detail into its world to make it come alive, and I think it succeeds.
As for GTA IV being better...I'm going to have to be one of those people who disagrees. I think vanilla GTA IV was a boring mess, and the city was completely uninteresting and flat. The expansions, Ballad of Gay Tony and Lost and the Damned, were much better due to the stories and characters actually being interesting and fun. However I still never beat vanilla GTA IV because...well, it's monotonous and boring. GTA V had me hopping from mission to mission just to see what would come next.
I'm really glad to see Payday 2 take Best Multiplayer. It's an outstanding co-op game that's tons of fun (especially since I voted for it in this category
) but what's up with Steam winning Best Gaming Platform? I mean, I guess
it's a platform if you want to split hairs, but I personally wouldn't classify it as such.
Overall, the awards seem to be pretty fair. I don't feel like any of the games that won something were undeserving of the award.
